Precision Build-Optic Help

Just finished building an SPRish precision AR. Need some help with optic choice. Budget is around 500, Want to use my basspro gift cards on it so it has to be something they sell there.

Couple I have my eye on:

Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44
Vortex Viper HS-LR 4-16x50
Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x42
Nikon M-223 4-16x42

Any opinions on these or suggestions for any others?

Does the monarch have target turrets?

I have vortex vipers but not the one your asking about, I like the vipers.

Lol, what is the definition of precision is a better question, one hole at 300yds?

Aside from possibly being a bit "too much" scope for an SPR, this one seems interesting:

+1 for the Vortex. Lifetime no questions warranty. Just make sure your turrets match the reticle, i.e. MOA reticle with MOA turrets or Mil reticle with Mil click turrets. Pretty safe these days but make sure. I also prefer FFP reticles so that you can do range estimation at any power.

Either up your budget a bit or get a used SWFA 3-9.

I am not too familiar with Bass Pro but my guess is that whatever scope you get there it'll be overpriced to begin with so use your gift cards for something else...

I think the Vipers are way better than the Nikon's. But the 4-16 powered Vipers are reported to have clarity issues at or near max power. The same scopes in 6-24 do not have that issue. I own a 6-24 HSLR and its fantastic.

I run this scope on my 20" SPRish AR, but in the BDC.

Ive read a bit about this as well. I wonder if thats an issue they can fix if i send the scope back to the factory?

I really like the HS-T 4-16x44 as well the HS LR has a bigger objective, but I wonder how much of a difference 44-50 will make?

Maybe it is. You can always get one and try it. It may be fine.

44-50 won't make a huge difference on the range. In low light hunting you'd see the difference.
