    Long term gun storage Help

well unfortunately due to my circumstances at home I need to place my guns in long term storage until further notice. most likely my firearms will be in a duffel bag and placed in a clean garage with good installation. I remember not to long ago reading a post about a cal gunner having a safe in his garage in which his python rusted away and I am afraid my gi bring backs might be at risk.

I was thinking of covering my firearms in clp and using plastic wrap to seal them away from water and air corrosion?

for the record they will be safe and away from any theft.

The method in which you store your firearms depends on the length of time you plan to keep them that way. CLP will work for a short time. If you plan for extended length of storage you will need some type of heavy grease.

Look into a product called "Corrosion Seal" by CRC I use it on the boats I service. Available in most marine stores. dries to a waxy film than can be removed with most solvents. I use it on all the steel parts to stop rust or corrosion from storage in my unheated garage.Once coated it hermeticaly seals the item.

Because of California weather I would definitely try grease. With CLP you run the risk of it drying out in hot garage.

They might work but like CLP I have seen them leave marks on guns stored for extended times. If you are trying to store rare or very expensive ( read hard to replace) firearms then I would say go for the best method. If it's a palmetto AR build ( no offense to anyone, I have Palmetto parts too) then it might be less expensive to spray them down with heavy oil. If you find them later to have damage just replace with new parts.

I think Brownells has vacuum sealed bags for long guns. Coat everything with some good gun grease, throw in some desiccant, then seal it up.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

I moved and didn't know when I'd return, whether it'd be 1 year or 10. Turned out to be 2. I wasn't able to take everything, so I sealed them in bags with rust blox. I soaked them in CLP to be extra sure. 3 years later opened one and everything was good. Bag can be resealed with an iron.

Probably overkill, but it allowed me to sleep at night.
