So when I am looking to buy an upper, it can all look the same (i.e. 16" carbine, hand guards, carry handle, etc.) but I see some posted as HBAR and others may say Heavy Barrel. What other options might I see and what are the differences?

Same thing.
Note that HBARs are often less expensive than other barrels, because there's less machine work needed. Tends to make the rifle nose-heavy as well."Are you bringing in any weapons?"
"Of course not!"

AFAIK, HBAR is what colt called one of its AR15/M16 barrel profiles. That does not mean that any other brand of barrel called a Heavy Barrel is cut to the same profile as the Colt HBAR.Jack
Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
