    Saiga sportster into 2017 RAW

What is the minimum I can do to Saiga sportster to make it a registerable AW in 2017?

I have a couple of Saiga sportsters I want to eventually convert, but I am short on time due to my job. I want them to be registerable in 2017, but I don't want to run into the possibility of illegal manufacturing of an AW.

I have Bullet Button (cage) type magazine locks that I can install before doing anything to them, but I am looking for an easy and quick method to make them "featured."

One hoakey method I can think of is screwing a pistol grip to the stock. Other ideas?

Zip ties or duck tape for securing the pistol grip - don't drill if you don't have to And according to the flow chart, a forward vertical grip would do I think, even without a pistol grip.

Removable mag + just one evil feature = AW. So one evil feature with BB locked mag = 2016 AW style rifle to be reg'd in 2017.

Yeah not easy on the Saiga sporter - some are not threaded at all and the ones that are, are permanently shrouded over.

Easiest way would be to change out the stock and put a collapsible stock on the rifle. You can install any stock in less than 5 minutes with only a screwdriver. Will it be easy to shoot with no grip? No really.

I wonder if you thread a telescoping antenna from an old radio into the buttplate, does that make it a telescoping stock?

Nobody has asked this question, and it is killing me.
Why do you want to take a featureless rifle and make it an AW?
Just curious, they are you guns to do with as you please.

I want to eventually put naughty features on it. IMO, one can get much better hunting type of rifles than these Saigas.

RAW stored in my out of state residence = a free state rifle that is out of CA jurisdiction and reach that may re-enter the state at will.

Yup, the "how many dead hookers can you keep in your trunk if your taillights are not out" question, LOL

I've been thinking of doing the same.

The easiest thing to do is maglock it, then add a vfg to the forend. Pretty much anything can be a vfg, though I have a bunch of A2 pgs lying around that aren't being used for anything...

Pull the front swing swivel, get a short section of one inch doweling, drive a screw through the swivel hole into the doweling...worlds cheapest new VFG?

                            I like that idea, Michael!

I'll also experiment with screwing an unused grip to the stock. But since I am such an AK purist, I'll use a comblock bakelite grip
