    2nd AR optics question

My first AR has an aimpoint T1 and is done KISS style and is lightweight.

I own a base LMT AR15 that I want to start fixing up and have been leaning towards an ACOG but the problem is when I start listing components it starts to become the exact same gun as my first with an ACOG instead of an Aimpoint T1. Do you guys who have used ACOGS before think the sight is different enough to warrant putting on a second rifle or is it too similar and I should be looking at something else that I havent considered?

Think not of fashion, but function. Define what it should do then build it.

I'm all for the acog, even though I have three aimpoints(t1,t2&pro) on a couple of my ARs and an AK. But that being said the preciseness and bdc(bullet drop compensator) of the acog retical will be a fine complement to your t1 equipped rifle.

It will not be too similar. Red dot for the quickness and the acog for additional accuracy, it will have magnification and a more precise crosshair or dot depending on retical.

I'm on board with this line of thinking. A 1-4x or 3-9x is extremely versatile across a wide range of settings. If you really want an ACOG, get one, but it helps to pick a role for the rifle, then pick the optic best suited for it.

The T1 and ACOG are bomb proof and great for what they were designed for. That said, I would think about a 1-4X if I were you.

If you need a really tough optic try the NightForce 1-4X. IF you want a good daylight bright scope with BDC, look at the Trijicon Accupower 1-4X

                Function first then optic selection

                We have 2 AR-15s
                One with red dot
                One with 4x12

Right tool for the right job. What are you trying to accomplish with this rifle that you can't with your other? The micro red dots really shine up close. Not to say that they can't be used to 300yds. The acog doesn't have a tremendous amount of magnification which can be nice. Have you tried one yet?

You have the red dot AR. Now get a nice 3x9 scope for the other one.

Considering it's what I used in the marines, I'm a huge fan of the ACOG. I personally think it's vastly superior to a standard, non-magnified, red dot

If your rifle is turning out the same just with a different sight, I'd consider rethinking the entire build. Is this just a "backup" or alternative to the first rifle? Then you're fine building it pretty much the same. But you could take this opportunity to build something different. Like registering one, while going featureless with the other. Or building one for longer range while the other is for close. Maybe one lightweight, while the other is setup for a bench with bipod, etc. Just something to consider. Then the sight you chose is based on the range and style of shooting you plan on, rather than just being "different."

I ended up with one super lightweight, one pretty standard, one with an 18" barrel with a 12x scope and bipod, and one a pistol, for example.

^^^ I have an Aimpoint Pro on one and a 1-4x Trijicon Accupoint on another (bought way before Accupower came out), which happens to be on same LMT AR OP discussing. I do think an ACOG on a .223/.556 AR would be fun, and I do have one on my SCAR 17 that is great for blasting, but really hard to beat all the 1-4x and 1-6x newer scopes that are offered these days.

I'm in love with the primary arms 2.5x prism scope maybe try a cheaper version of the acog to see if you'll even like it. Or since the second build is so similar just build an upper with the acog on top and switch off... 1-4x/1-6x optic are heavy as heck compared to an acog or similar scopes.
