How much is accuracy affected when shooting .223 out of a 5.56 chamber?

Trying to decide whether I should start buying 5.56 stuff or keep using .223. Is there a significant difference in groups?

I zeroed my ARs at 100 yard using 5.56 55gr. Shooting .223 55gr is about 2" higher at 100 yard.

It's similar to the shift in your POI when you use 55gr from one manufacturer and 68gr from another.

Ideally, it's best to work up a load that works with your rifle. It'll be cheaper than buying match ammo, plus your round will be tailored to your rifle which should yield better results.

What type upper, barrel length, twist rate, bullet weight, optic or irons and distance are you shooting? What size groups are you getting now? How much improvement do you think is needed?

            He's got a KAC SR30 lower with a KAC SR15 Mod 2 upper 14.5" barrel with 1:7 IIRC

I'll have to bring some heavier stuff next time we go shooting. Taking the bolt gun this Wednesday

I get 0.5 MOA with handloads of 55gr Hornady V-max. All load data and dimensions are for .223 Rem, and this particular rifle is chambered for 5.56.

The quality of the ammo matters more than whether it is technically 556 or 223.

I hand load to .223 specs, but shoot it through a 5.56 chamber, sub MOA groups easy.

Now if your talking about buying factory ammo only, it all depends on your gun and the ammo you feed it. Your gun may like one over the other. So yeah, maybe it will shoot 5.56 better, maybe it won't. There's no yes or no answer to that question.

I suggest you stop buying factory ammo and invest in a reloading setup. If your wanting accuracy, thats the one thing thats going to give it to you.

t's the arrow, not the Indian. Ammo matters a lot. Federal 55 grain XM193 is crap next to Hornady match 69 grain. It also costs about double.

Just keep in mind the intended use. If a person is shooting targets, then a 2moa or 3moa difference is huge, gigantic, IMMENSE. However, if a person is using the rifle for HD, then it doesn't matter much because the shooting distance will likely be 10 yards or less and tolerance is far greater, which given the above error and range comes to 0.2" or 0.3". At that point it is the Native Person, not the arrow.

that's what that .223 wylde chamber was made for

supposed to have the "match grade accuracy of .223" but the "strength required to handle 5.56" rounds

sounds like snake oil to me but im not a very great shot so...

The lead angle of a Wylde is longer allowing the use of 556 or 223,this doesn't require any more strength .
                          Keep it simple!

I was asking this partially in reference to .223 Wylde chambers, as I was curious if these chambers do indeed allow greater accuracy. Not in the market for one, just want to learn more about the various .223 options
