    BCM ELW vs Standard

Was thinking of putting together another build here soon and want to go BCM this time and completely build out the Upper. I have a SD3G trigger I will swap over, Aero or Anderson lower, BCM Upper receiver, and for my choice of Barrel I was thinking the BCM ELW or just standard as I already have a Geissele super low pro and 15" Mk8 rail OTW.
Should I just buy a .625" gas block for the LW barrel and ditch the Geissele block?
Would I notice the difference in the lighter Barrel?
Build is really just for fun as of this point so not really a purpose built rifle, input is appreciated!

If it's for fun then just do what makes you happy.

I have 1 of the ELW barrels/uppers and 4 of the standards from BCM. I honestly wouldn't know which one was the ELW if I hadn't given it a different color handguard lol. They're all solid and reliable

When you say standard, I assume you mean Government profile vs ELW? All BCM barrel come in either BFH(Forged) or standard which is how they are machined.
Standard barrels are $75 cheaper then their forged barrels.

They also have 3 different weights, ELW,LW and Government or standard as I believe you mean?

There is a 25 page thread from mid 2014 on M4 carbine Forum and those guys tested the ELW and had nothing put praise about the (new at the time) ELW barrel. They also said they felt a noticeable difference between the Govt. vs ELW, with the Govt. being front heavy. This is from several different members shooting the ELW.

Does BCM make their own barrels?

Their ELW specs look suspiciously similar to Ballistic Advantage Hanson Profile barrel specs.

Plus the BA barrels are $50-75 cheaper on average.

          Good to know lol
Looking at it now it's only 5-6oz difference, don't believe I'll notice that.

There may not be a big difference in OZ but look at pics of the Govt. barrel. The barrel starts out thinner and gets thicker towards the muzzel end causing it to feel more front heavy. You may not notice a difference unless you carry your gun for hours at a time. I myself am deciding between the ELW vs Govt. Standard vs forged.

                Splurged and went with ELW-F.
Going for a lightweight build. Does a LW BCG require an adjustable gas block to tune the system? Or should I stick with a mil spec BCG?

Bravo USA BCG option to add is their Mil Spec BCG, so go with what they say.

Mid Length 16" Upper Receiver Group (Enhanced Lightweight, Fluted). This AR15 Upper comes with KMR-A13 handguard, 16in barrel & your choice of muzzle device.

I'd opt for a heavier barrel; being a semi-auto it's easy to burn through 500 rounds in one sitting. Your POI will shift dramatically, in a shorter period of time, with a thin barrel if you're putting rounds down range in quick succession.

You won't notice a difference in weight.

Or stay with the ELW, but not fluted. More people say they notice the weight difference then not from what I have read. No personal experience other then 40 + pages of threads I have read about ELW vs Govt.

I most definitely notice the weight difference.

I definitely notice the weight. To me it feels dramatically lighter
