    Question about Banned by Name

What exactly does banned by name mean when talking about new rifles and the AW registration. I see many rifles on the banned by named list that they sell to this day. Colts, bushy, dpms... All on the list, yet still legal to buy. What am I missing.

Rifles available when the AW bill passed were listed by name. Those specific rifles are considered "banned by name."

Not banned by brand name, model specific

check out the flow chart, if it is listed, it is banned by name. it is not the manufacturer that is banned, it is the exact model....

many manufacturers changed the model designation, and thus not banned by name

"It is currently CA legal to modify a double-action revolver into a single-action revolver and modify a single-action revolver into a double-action revolver.

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ Quiet

Colt is on the list with AR-15, Law Enforcement, Match Target, and Sporter, any one of those is illegal, Colt M-4 is not on the list, so legal.
Bushmaster XM-15 is on the list and illegal, Bushmaster by any other model number or name is legal.

The ones you are seeing for sale today are not the same exact model names/numbers...
