Magazine parts still ok to ship to CA?

I moved to a free state and haven't posted here in a while. A friend of mine who is still an inmate just acquired a PTR that comes with a 20rnd mag. The guy he bought it from is about to ship and offered to delete the mag, or disassemble and ship it as a parts kit suitable for pinning and building as a CA 10rnd. My buddy just called to ask me if this is ok, I told him that it used to be, but I have no idea if it still is or not.

What's the current rule, have they screwed everyone on this already, or is this an upcoming screwing?

    TIA,

A complete parts kit hasn't been legal in a while. Individual parts? Maybe, I wouldn't take the risk.

They ship bodies separately . Cost an arm and a leg tho.

Have your friend email this guy for 10/20 PTR mags. He ships very quick.

Tell the FFL that the incoming PTR will not come with a mag and that you will bring your own for the transfer. Some FFL won't even need the mag. But if your friend is trying to save buck or two then no. Parts kits are not allowed into CA.

Your buddy probably needs to have a mag for the safe handling demo.

Thank you for the assistance everyone. This board is as helpful and friendly as I remember.

Keep fighting the good fight. Take an anti shooting. I've converted 4 people to our cause over the years (had to marry one to do it). That's not a ton, but if we each convert a few, that's everyone in the US on our side after a while.

              best,

Use an FFL that has a high cap mag permit who is willing to pin the mag.

DOJ is telling such vendors that's a violation of their permit.

Just like they did with the AW/DWP permit.

I haven't heard that one. just the "converting AWs to non-AW was a violation of the AWP" one.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
