    Fal reciever 2017

Would I be able to purchase a stripped fal receiver next year and build it as a featureless rifle?

    Of course. Why wouldn't you?

Just wondering as I was worried that with the upcoming 2017 rifle laws I wouldn't be able to piece together a fal. Anyone else care to chime in?

Yes you can still build up a featureless Fal if you buy the receiver after 2016.

Why worry about features? You can fix the mag in place and get a dust cover which allows you to feed from the top via stripper clips. I think Canadian FALs had such a feature.

Yes, you can build a featureless FAL. I bought a DSA receiver and it took two weeks from order to my FFL. I don't want to build featureless.

Awesome! I plan on doing this, you ordered directly from DSA? Which model did you get?

I bought from DSA directly; I got the type 2 with the carry handle cut.

I had the same interest in getting DSA FAL receivers also with the same concern as Kowalski... Will we be able to get stripped DSA FAL receivers in 2017? Thanks u guys for your insight. I like the idea of doing fixed mag version and then having to ignore some other issues. But what exactly else can we ignore if we run a fixed mag set up to a FAL build?

Maybe still keep the pistol grip normal or still change and add a kydex wrap? Keep the stock foldable still or no keep it fixed? Keep a flash hider on it or no change it out? Thanks for the clarity fellas.

Folding stock would require one of the scope mounts with a charger guide to be practical. All of the features are fine with a fixed mag. For fixed butt, you'd need the charger guide top cover, requiring tab cuts at the rear of the receiver, or use the aforementioned scope mounts. Charger loading can be practical, and you have better access to the interior. For a folding stock, you can't shorten the barrel too much or it will come in under 30 inches folded. I'm not sure what non-permanent method that does not alter the receiver will be available, if any, for fixing the magazine under the new laws. I've wondered if the current shroud with no opening for a tool would suffice.

I know this doesn’t answer your question but it will certainly help you find a receiver- If you’re in Nor Cal, Independence Armory in Petaluma had a stripped DSA SA58 type 3 FAL receiver (https://www.dsarms.com/p-16472-dsa-f...-762x51mm.aspx) in stock when I was in there over the weekend. Price was the same as what’s listed on DSA’s website.
