    Featureless Self Defense AR

I want to designate one of my AR's for SD with a featureless build; what would be the best stock/grip and muzzle device? I'm thinking stock should be a shorter length for quick handling (A1?) and the ability to securely grip the rifle and run the gun. Muzzle device - more worried about not blowing the ears off the rest of the family then anything else; muzzle control secondary. All input appreciated.

Just use a thread protector unless you bought a less than 16" barrel.

I'd definitely go fixed stock of kind and maybe thread protector.

        I liked Fate's...

...so I picked up a Sully stock and built a similar carbine, but using a Monsterman.

( And one of these days I'll take it to the range and actually shoot it. )

I am doing that on a featureless hunting AR build; wasn't sure about better options for this application.

For a self-defense featureless I would personally stick with the Thordsen stock. It's going to be a bit long for close quarters but you won't ever have to worry about losing your grip on the rifle. No funky hand positioning, no need to worry about cheek weld. Be sure to buy an oversize selector switch.

For your muzzle device just go with a thread protector. A muzzle brake is going to blow your ear holes out.

                  Here's how I did mine.

I'm trying to get rid of it now, so I can replace it with something heavier for long range target practice, but a thread protector and a Thordsen stock is the way to go for featureless, IMHO.

Before I went with the Thordsen, I had the Hammerhead grip and the BAD lightweight stock. which might be a better option if you're looking for a really short length of pull.

Can also use a Linear Comp of some kind too (I used a Kaw Valley Precision)... sends blast downrange.

                    +1 on Thordsen.

And also put a weaponlight of some kind on there.

Imho thordsen or a hammerhead with an adjustable stock set to where you want it, then pinned. I think those are the only 2 options that allow you to wrap your thumb around the grip.

Thanks all. Anyone have the LOP for the Thorsden handy? The Hammerhead was the other option I had been considering.

I currently have the Backfin on a Magpul MIAD grip for the hunting build. I think it will work there but I don't feel like it would be a good choice for SD. Seems like I have to fiddle a bit to get comfy with it.

LOP = 14.5". Is the rubber butt pad removable?

If not using a single point sling, any reason to go enhanced over standard?

BTW, please correct me if wrong, but going to featureless let's me remove the bullet button too, correct?

At this point, may I add "stupid California?"

Here is a short video of myself and my friend using our Thordsen equipped 9mm AR's in a USPSA match.
Mine is a Colt pattern lower with a 14 1/2", pinned and welded JP upper, and his is a 16" upper w/brake.

Both are very handy and I use mine as my HD rig.

Here it is in its HD roll:

Yes the rubber butt pad is removable, that will shave off a half inch but it's not going to be pleasant on your shoulder for extended shooting. Not sure about standard vs enhanced, I'm sure you would be happy with either. The build quality is the same (very solid).

Yes going featureless lets you remove the bullet button. It really is fun to drop mags with the traditional mag catch. And despite how much people will ***** and moan the Thordsen stock is really comfortable and quite nice to shoot.

You're basically taking an evil as hell semi-military style assault AK-15 terrorist machine Glock and transforming it into a much more gentle and far less dangerous hunting style rifle.
