Customization between the AR-9 and MCX should be close to equal, being that the receivers are 90% identical.

          That's not very stoner like.

You didn't mention it but I really like the Sub2000.

HK also released a new CIVILAN Semi MP5. It's nice, the aftermarket is bountiful; But I'm looking for controls that are similar to a stoner design.

Not in the least. But it does share Colt SMG type mags with my 9mm AR, so that's cool.

I just went through this myself and ended up with a Just Right Carbine Gen 3 in 9mm. The MPX was too expensive for my budget but otherwise I would have taken one home. I liked the AR platform but wanted a purpose built rifle without worrying about the upper or fine tuning the buffer and ejection- it was also ~$200 cheaper than building with a glock mag lower and side charging upper. If I had a smaller budget I would have purchased the HiPoint carbine. Lot of reliable fun in a small ugly package.

Good suggestion and it's certainly worth looking in to.

one can also go the route of the aero survival rifle from TNW.

and you can get caliber change kits afterwards.

I've got a sig MPX which I enjoy shooting a great deal, however if I was to do over, I'd probably save the money and get a 9mm AR from a company like Angstadt Arms, JP or Tresna. The MPX is beautifully built, but it is heavy and kind of bulky. Things like the charging handle, bolt carrier group and hand guard are proprietary, making it hard to really customize it.

That being said, I always like less mainstream stuff. I'm now eyeing a Tavor X95 in 9mm which I know is total waste of money.

I regularly trade my full auto AR 9mm for my friends sbr scorpion but I turn down my other friends mpx sbr.

When I have time I will make a full auto scorpion out of a pistol and add the stock.

The TNW is a comparable rifle(JRC has caliber kits for similar pricing) and it is about ~1 pound lighter than the JRC; It even has a better trigger out of the box (TNW is... 4lb's?) . What killed it for me were the parts- a lot less of them are AR compatible, and the malfunctions people have reported with under/over inserted magazines. Still a very nice rifle for the price if you can find one.

I had a 9mm ar. It was ok, but I sold it. I recently bought an MPX. I've had a lot more fun with the MPX than the AR. The Scorpion looks like another good alternative. You can always build a 9mm ar from a regular lower.

If it has to be ONE, then the MPX. I had an ar 9 with colt mags, sold it though it functioned fine. Recently got ahold of an mpx, and yes the mags are pricey but I managed to get a few at about 50per. Still pricey, but they are very nice mags and the gun just feels smoother than an ar9. I don't mind the heft, but it's a valid point. I do like that it's a locked bolt design as I like to run some hot handle ads sometimes. I really don't see sig dropping the platform anytime soon, it's just gaining too much traction/popularity. That being said I do have a glock mag lower laying around for a rainy day.
