    JP Enterprises spring/Spike buffer...

    Hey guys,

I've been on the hunt for a while to try to curb the relentless pogo-stick feel/sound of my Colt LE6920 carbine. The rifle shoots great and is very accurate for a non-free floating barrel (repeatable 3/4" groups at 100 yards) but that dang "boing" sound and over-gassed feel is not what I would call "impressive" by any measure.

Soooo... went on a short hunt for replacing the buffer and spring in hopes that might tame the pogo-beast! After many suggestions from friends and also reading online, I first purchased the good 'ole Spikes ST-T2 buffer. That along with the standard mil-spec spring really didn't do much over the standard H buffer, which is not surprising as it only weighs .4 ounces more.

So I figured a new spring was in order and I decided to get a Tubbs flat spring. The Tubbs was a pain to install as the flat spring hung up on the buffer stop during install/removal and honestly I did not like the feel of it while shooting. While reduced, it still had that pogo-spring feel and the bolt return had too much energy. Felt imbalanced. I tried cutting the spring, and that helped a tiny bit, but it left me with a fear that my unscientific approach to modifying the spring might jack up my Colt's BCG or worse.

Anyway, did some more research and ended up with a JP Enterprises custom ground high-energy carbine spring. Hands down the JP is just fantastic. Smooth, quiet and really made a difference in the overall feel both in charging and in shooting impulse. It along with the Spikes ST-T2 buffer and my Colt carbine feels absolutely improved. Smooth and quiet charging. Quick, snappy and controlled while shooting and much quicker back on target. Zero pogo-spring feel/sound, zero failures after hundreds of rounds down range with all types of ammo - both steel and brass cased. Over the weekend several people shot my Colt and all commented on how fantastic it felt. I agree with them!

Anyhow, I am very happy and can highly recommend the Spikes/JP combo for any AR carbine or mid-length gas system rifle. It is without a doubt the most effective upgrade I've done. Factor in the total cost for buffer and spring at $49 then it is a total win. I'm sure this has been blubbered about before but just thought I toss it out there. Great combo!

JP does make some great stuff but you pay for it.
