Adams Arms piston upper any good?

I have a chance to buy one of these from a friend who's going through the beginnings of a messy divorce(Says wife is threatening restraining order as punishment for god knows what) for $300, unused still in the shipping box. 16" base model, seems like a no brainer, I have a stripped Spikes lower laying around, so why not build another gun.

Anyone have one? Are there any problems with these? Or at $300, who cares?

Yes, that is a great deal. Buy it now. I love the Adams Arms piston kit, and their Voodoo barrel is really good too.

With a fixed stock, I got short stroking. I bought a lighter buffer, but might also need to get a lighter buffer spring

The whole upper. I'm going to pick it up tonight.

They are good but not great. They are cost effective and they do honor their warranty. I've had two 5.56 16". The first one had failures to feed and failures to extract. I return it and they repaired it. It ran fine after that. The second one I ordered would not fit on any of three different lowers I have. I returned it to the seller for a full refunds. I've since sold the first upper as the thought of a failure in a critical situation was disturbing. I suggest considering the PWS long stroke piston uppers. I have multiple PWS uppers, 223 Wilde, 300 Blackout, 6.5 Creedmore, and 7.62 NATO in lengths from 7.5 (pistol), 14.5 (pinned), 16, 18, and 20 inches. Some are on PWS lowers, Spikes, and Aero. They have all run flawlessly. They cost more, but feel they are worth it. No matter which one you buy, make sure you use the buffer spring and buffer weight recommended by the manufacturer of the upper.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

I can't speak for factory built AA uppers, but I have one I put together with the mid length XLP system on a Faxon 14.5 and it has been 100% reliable.

I have their pistol length kit on my ar pistol. I had to enlarge the gas port on my barrel to make it cycle with light buffer and spring.

                For fun, ok.
                Otherwise go DI route.
