Did I screw up my 80% lower?

    Hey everyone,

So I finally received my jig and got all excited to finish my first lower. Everything was going well until the drill stop slipped while drilling the hole right before the rear lug area.

I drilled about 1/4" too deep but all other holes are within spec per the manual. See pics (sorry if they're huge).

This is the hole I drilled too deep.

Another hole drilled to correct depth in comparison.

Collateral damage as a result from drilling too deep.

Should I still take the time to mill it out or just scrap this lower and buy a new one? If I can still save it, and have it functional once it's assembled, that'd be great. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

    It should be okay.

Just don't drop it on the carpet.

It'll run fine. If anything once you're done put some JB weld in there and smooth it out to the depth of the rest of the pocket.

It's fine jb weld your mistake and try again when it cures. Remember carpet is dangerous!

Its good to go. Now you have an extra drain hole that goes into the pistol grip area. I would not do anything other than debur surfaces.

You're good! I've seen worse and they function with no problems.

Happened to me once but I caught it before drilling. I put a piece of masking tape on the bit above the collar on my last 80.

                Thanks everyone.

Lesson learned; use a drill press. Everything would've been great if I wasn't so OCD about having the drill stop just to "touch" the template on each hole.

I even stopped every so often to check the depth of the bit. The stop was less than a hair width close to the template, and if I stopped, everything would've looked great. But I'm glad to know I can still use this lower.

                You guys are awesome.

Haha, fortunately there was no buffer tube attached and it hasn't been dropped.

Yup, it's trashed. It's a Cerro forged keyhole lower and it's now junk. If it was an Alcoa Forge lower it could have been salvaged. It's done, might as well just toss it on the carpet.
