    Chromate conversion coating.

    Good day, folks.
I'm interested in doing a chromate conversion coating (alodine 1201) on a new .308 semi-auto rifle (AR-10). 1201 specifically for the gold to tan Color. Alodine has been used for it's corrosive resistant and scratch resistant properties in aluminum and aluminum alloys. The process is similar to annodizing but much more simple. Anybody play around with this yet?
    Thanks in advance.

I have not played and my knowledge is very limited, but I understood that Alodine 1201 is used for corrosion resistance and paint adhesion, but not scratch resistance. It is used to touch up scratched parts that were previously anodized, but I do not believe it is nearly as tough a finish as anodizing.

In my experience, it's somewhat fragile...similar to a regular paint primer.

I'd anodize, whether or not I wanted to paint or gunkote or cerakote the gun.

It is not scratch resistant as stated above.
