Depends on who converted and and how. Post pictures of the bullet guide and trigger guard.

      Cadre,

Who and from where are you buying? Reason I ask is because Fleet Farm in Wisconsin recently put old stock of 5.45 Saigas up for sale for $450. Quite a few folks ran out and bought up multiple.

If it is in state, that is a great deal. If it is out of state then I would negotiate to cover your transfer costs.

When you say half converted, front half or rear half?
What trigger was added if the back half?
What was done in the conversion process?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
        (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

          Omg...

That makes me so sad and jealous.

Buddy had one that looked just like those. It was solid and he loved it

Round count is pointless but yes that's a pretty good price.

Decent deal and the whole pipes down range doesn't matter. I have a saiga with ~10k and it's still accurate so don't let that sway you.

I don't see much point to go 5.45 now that cheap 7N6 is no more. As far as I can tell, cheap commercial steel case 5.45 is about the same price as similar 5.56.

I built an AR74 shortly before the import ban happened. Luckily I picked up quite a bit of 7N6. I prefer AR ergos to AK ergos but to each his own.

I know which one he's talking about; I didn't bother inquire because I've got stockpiles of 7.62x39 otherwise I'd buy it.

No point to 5.45? Lighter recoil, better ballistic performance, lighter weight ammo, and ammo pricing equal to 7.62x39. I'll admit ammo availability and mag prices/availability/variety aren't as good as 7.62x39 but those are hardly obstacles to someone with access to the Internet.

Oh and certain accessories for ARs (like chest rigs) will crossover for ak74 mags with no problem.

                      I meant 5.45 vs 5.56, not vs 7.62x39.

I checked it out with this in mind and decided not to move forward after my inspection.

FYI. Go on Akfiles and post a WTB. You'll be surprised and maybe even delighted with how many people around the country who will want to sell you their 5.45 AK.

Roger. Well Ill admit the benefits to 5.45 are few and far between while the cons are numerous if you had to choose between the two, BUT I do like how 5.45 performs out of shorter barrels. 5.56 (unless you are buying high cost ammo) isn't as effective out of carbine length (or shorter) barrels.

But since thats irrelevant in CA, ya 5.56 > 5.45. But in a free state, Id love to SBR an underfolder AK74 with like a 12" barrel.
