Matech BUIS ?

Is the Matech iron sights designed for 14" 16" or 20" also, what spec ammo?

The Matech can be used on the 14", 16" and 20". Keep in mind that they are not a match sight but are designed to be used as a back up sight. It will get you on target.

Are you SURE? M193 vs M855 on a 14 vs 20... (eg. M855 on a 20" vs M193 on a 14") have a HUGE different drop @ 600yds.... I did some calculation, you would be like 50" off at 600yds... HOW can that get you on target?!?!?! Please enlight me.

matechs are designed for both 14.5in and 20 inch barrels with 1 in 7 twist rate using m855 (62 gr) ammo.

i think it depends on what type of mount you attach your aimpoint to.

It has the same height as the standard sight. So it will cowitness with an Aimpoint is the same manner a standard sight will. It just depends on your Aimpoint mount.

It will co-witness and as stated above, it can be used with the M4 and the M16 (you just zero the sight one click differently).

The only problem I had with it was that the retention spring (to keep the sight secured down) will break on some of the sights.

Yeah, there are a few issues to be aware of with Matechs.

- The bump that holds them latched down wears with use, and eventually will allow the sight to spring up when firing. If it's not used a lot (ie, as a true BUIS), it's unlikely you'll see it, but if you flip it up a lot, it increases the chance.

- They're a longer range sight, with a single small aperture. You lose some of the short-range flexibility of a dual aperture sight.

- They're pretty tall when folded, and won't fit under some magnified scope/mount combos.

- They take up more slots than many BUIS, which can limit which scope mounts you use.

- The clamp tends to break if overtightened. This is a pretty common problem and spares are hard to come by, so tighten carefully.

Aside from that, it's a fine BUIS!

I've expereinced several of the things listed above. I finally sold it and intended to put a MBUS on it but Magpul is dragging their feet.

The Matech was design to be used with M855. It was designed for the military which now uses M855, Not M193. They also come with instructions to be zeroed with a 20" barrel and a 14.5" barrel. Shoot the same round and see where your round impacts. When you know your rifle, you will know where it shoots. If all else fails, use Kentucky Windage!
