    Beretta CX4---Got it

I have probably added the last long gun to my small arms locker ahead of 1 Jan. 2017, and it is a pre-owned Beretta CX4 in 9mm, configured to take Beretta M9/9-series pistol mags. Picture attached. It came with a nice Bushnell Red Dot ($99 new price) which is a good choice for this handy rifle.

A couple of questions for CX4 owners:

    1. What sling are you using on yours, or what sling would you recommend?

    2. Does this rifle like to run with a lot of lube, or normal, or relatively dry? What do you lube it with, and in what areas? Yes, I know, check the owner's manual and I will, but I'm interested in real world practices by real owners.

I'm not planning to make it "featureless", and will register it with the Politburo when the time comes.

Beautiful rifle! I was planning to acquire a CX4 around a month ago, but our fellow CGers convinced me to get an SKS instead. Hopefully I can acquire one before 2017.

Congrats, Dan Finger! Nice picture. What caliber is yours? Have you figured out what kind of sling to put on it yet? I already had a Beretta 92 with a ton of magazines.

            Nice!!

CX4 is such a great little rifle. Fun to shoot. I have the Sierra Papa trigger on mine, which made a difference.

Mine is also Californicated (featureless), since I can't stand the CX4 bullet button. I basically filled in the stock using a polymer. I made it as 2 pieces that are screwed together, so that it is removable when I go out of state. There's a few threads here that show how to do it for thumbhole stocks if you search. I prefer the featureless option over the bullet button for this rifle.

Thanks for the comments esp. on the Sierra Papa trigger. Regarding the bullet button issue, right now I'm thinking I'll probably register it and convert it to "normal". Do you have any optics on yours?

I have a .45 ACP CX4 Storm. Take a look at the upgrades offered by Sierra Papa http://sierrapapacx4.com/

I got the trigger, guide rod, buffer, and bolt to recoil spring link upgrades. They are located not far from where I work (in Oregon) so I was able to drive over and they installed the upgrades while I waited.

Also, check out this forum http://www.berettaforum.net/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=38
                Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

Thanks, Milsurp. Do any of those mods soften the recoil? I've been wondering about all the various replacement parts they offer.

I have only shot 230 gr .45 ACP with it and the recoil was pretty stiff. I have handloaded some "geezer load" rounds that are soft shooting to see how those do.

The upgrades improve the trigger pull and replace plastic parts with metal parts to improve reliability.

I wish I had a 9mm version because the .45 ACP version has stiff recoil, and the magazines are hard to find, expensive, and hold only 8 rounds. Maybe that's why Beretta discontinued the .45 ACP version.

Yeah, I have the Bushnell TRS-25. Inexpensive, and does the job.

This is primarily the home defense package so I don't see myself toting the CX4 around all that much. Also put a bushnell TRS-25 on, was easy to sight in and co-witnesses with the irons. This carbine is a laser beam.
Concur with all that, danfinger. The TRS-25 is a good optic for the money. When I first shot my CX4 for the above range report, the rear iron sight was folded all the way down. I didn't bring tools or my spotting scope so I didn't mess with the co-witness or the irons. But I could see that this setup will co-witness nicely.

I also see having this carbine for the home defense aspect.

I'm having issue with the billet button. The magazine keeps on falling out! Anyone familiar with what's going on?
