Bolt Carrier Group vs Thread

Sorry to make yet another one of these "vs threads" as we all know how they sometimes end up haha. But I truly am at a brain lock point of whats the best.

You hear about Chrome flaking, this breaking/recalls, that not working, blah blah blah. I'm stuck. So want to hear from some experienced folks what they thought. Lets just pretend price has nothing to do with your decision. I'm curious as to what you'd chose.

Here are some I was thinking of, but each one has pros and cons. Please suggest any I do not list if you feel its superior. And this is for AR15 build, Semi Auto, no forward assist needed.

I'm personally torn between:

Young Manufacturing
Reliabolt NP3 Plus
POF
or
Robar NP3

(I live by the ocean, but don't shoot there. But still was causing me to like the Reliabolt NP3 Plus due to the ridiculous resistance claims. But is it just a gimmick ?)

I will expand. Parkerized is proven. Those other coatings are where you hear the issues of flaking and whatnot. Parkerized? Very very few if any issues. It just works. NO coating will allow you to run without lube. AR's run best soaking wet. One of my guns (an LMT LM8MWS .308) did come with a coating, however that wasnt the selling point to me, nor did it raise an eye brow. It was simply how that gun is supplied, so it is what it is; if anything i dislike it as the hard chrome carrier and np3 bolt just dont retain oil. It seems to dry quicker than parkerized. I will simply have to keep an eye on it and see how it shakes out long term. However, I treat all bcg's the same. Make that ***** a waterslide. Stay with a proven manufacturer like LMT, BCM, etc and you should not have any issues. Some of the fancypants bcg's with coatings do not have MP HP tested bolts, which is a huge issue. Batch testing is not acceptable in the heart of the rifle. I would be far more concerned with individual bolt testing, how well it is staked, quality of the carrier key AND screws (because no matter how well its staked, if the screws suck, they can break or shear), and quality of the smaller parts such as the cam pin that has a large hole in it, which can sometimes be a failure point. Funny enough, with the exception of maybe kne or two bcg's (which are not on that list), i can not say that a single bcg built to the proper spec comes coated. They are always parkerized as that is what has been proven for years, long before the fad of fancy and shiny AR pics on Instagram was a thing.

Not sure how you came up with your list but they are not considered top tier by hard use professionals. I would be looking at Daniel Defense, BCM, Colt and Spikes. If you clean and lube your guns, where you live or shoot will have no bearing on anything.

I am a big fan of phosphate bolt carrier groups - however I do like chromed and NP3 (Robar).

I have not used a Young NM chrome carrier nor a reliabolt in NP3 so I can't comment on those.

I run a NF bolt in my heavy use carbine. Just fed it 800 rounds of golden tiger on Saturday without any issues. I like it carbon wipes off with a dry rag. Bolt shows still looks new with no ware after 3000 rounds so far. That said I lube it just like any other bcg. I run BCM bolt carriers with NF bolts in my other guns and I am perfectly happy with them. Nothing wrong with phosphate....nothing.

NP3

NP3 is the top of the line coating. I've done two BCG's and also two Sig pistol frames.. They do beautiful work and the coating is just amazing. It not only makes the BCG easier to clean it acts a a natural lubricant with little or no need to oil it.

I would highly recommend NP3.

Toolcraft for me since they hold military contracts. OEM quality, mil-spec, no frills. If it's good enough for the military it's good enough for me.
