EOTech & Magnifier Combo: You like?

I'm considering mounting a 3x magnifier behind my EOTech on a flip-to-side mount. If you use (or have used) this setup, what are your thoughts?

works great, I opted for the quick disco 3x....flip over just gets in the way.

I'm thinking of going with this set up, what are the Pro's and Cons as to compared to Acog w/ DOC other than price?

main things to think of are weight and space on the rail above the upper reciever to mount a BUIS

I have shot an AR with the Eotech and the 3x magnifier it worked great but I would much rather save the money and get an acog that has the same stuff in one optic vice two. Plus, it is less heavy and you don't take up that much real state on your flat top.

The problem I have w/ an ACOG and red-dot combo is that if you mount the red-dot on top of the ACOG it's REALLY HIGH above the bore. So your point of impact will change a lot over a fairly short distance. Now if you mounted the red-dot on the foregrip at a 45-deg angle that would eliminate the bore offset problem.

The nice thing about the EOTech w/ FTS magnifier is that your POI is exactly the same whether you're magnified or not. I use my AR in practical rifle and 3-gun competitions where I may need to hit a 6"x6" head-shot from contact out to 25yds and having a 5" bore offset makes that quite difficult (plus in competition, having 2 optics puts you in Open class).

The EOTech FTS mount is a little flimsy. I use it for competition and it's never failed me but if I was going to war and cost were no object I'd use this mount: http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetac...ail.bok?no=270 or get the Aimpoint 3X w/ LaRue flip mount and mount it behind my EOTech.

                Here's my setup:

How do you figure an ACOG has the "same stuff"? The ACOG is a 4X fixed-magnification optic. Trying to use a 4X optic for CQB is VERY difficult.

An EOTech is a true 1X reflex sight for CQB and if you add a magnifier you can be effective out to 300 yds.

An ACOG is lighter and smaller but it is a much less capable optic setup by itself.

To me, EOTech + Magnifier is a bit heavy...

I like 4x ACOG... or even the larger 3.5x ACOG approach.... (this is what I use now.... )

I use the ACOG BAC to shoot at close target, I use a PMT ACOG cover sometimes.... close the cover, both eyes open, I can engage as fast and as accurate vs an EOTech.... and just flip the cover open to engage distance targets.

I love the combo. However, mine consists of a Bushnell Holosight and a fakepoint 3x mag. For plinking I love this cheap little mag in the back.

If I were going to buy the real deal Aimpoint + Mag I would rather have an ACOG personally. I love their magnification and reticle selections.

If I had the cash to throw around I would love this optic here: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=145409

I have an EOTECH on my Stag and i'm going to get the FTS magnifier on that rifle. On my CMMG I'm going to go with something like an ACOG, but that's down the road. I really want to have both.

All you need is an EOtech w/ a LaRue LT110, and then an ACOG w/ a LaRue LT139. Then you can pop one off and put the other up... zero them both for your gun, and you are gtg!

EOTech has redesigned the 3X magnifier and the new model will be available soon. They have opted to ONLY have the flip-to-side mount and they include a spacer so that it can be set at the right hight no matter which EOTech model you pair it with. It has a nice rubber cover on the back 1/2 of the optic. It's a nice improvement over the old model.

Yah, I'm gonna look into that. that way I can switch between my rifles easily.
