No one can definitively answer your question at this time. At this point, it's anyone's guess what is legally considered a FH and what is a MB. The only for sure non FH muzzle device is a thread protector. It may be best to "wait and see" what develops in the coming months. Bills can be amended and ambiguities need clarification. Good luck. But you don't want luck. You want certainty. Hopefully, in time you will have that.

Not sure what the other poster is talking about. I have used a PWS FSC and Surefire MB. The surefire is great as a MB but the concussion it causes to nearby shooters is something to be aware of.. The FSC works really well and is a good brake but not as obnoxious to fellow shooters.

Brake.... Most muzzle brakes aren't used for recoil reduction but more for quick follow up shots and helping you stay on target between shots atleast in my experience.

Maybe the OP broke his brake, so he is taking a break to find a new brake?

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

I think a sledge will do an excellent job of breaking your muzzle.

That's kind of a moving target. No one really knows for sure until DOJ prosecutes you for your muzzle device.

I'm just going to keep quoting this from another thread about other muzzle devices:

                          2) If the manufacturer calls it something else, if a DOJ person thinks it's a flash suppressor, it's a flash suppressor.

As noted, there are no objective standards.
There's a user on here called Chaos47 that has a list of muzzle devices with his subjective risk assessment of each device This is strictly his opinion and should not be considered legal advice:

Per his page, ATF no longer approves devices for manufacturers since the end of the Federal AWB, and CA DOJ has never approved devices for manufacturers.

Until someone is arrested with a suspected weapon that is thought to be illegally configured we will not learn what the CA DOJ classification of that device will be. We can only use educated guesses and err on the side of caution.

So, you may think you have a muzzle brake, but you won't know definitively until you get arrested.

FWIW, I believe that recoil reduction is a brake's only function. True on artillery, true on rifles. I believe it achieves this staying-on-target through recoil reduction: Keeps the rifle from jumping around so much.
