M4 "feed ramps"? Mega Upper?

I see uppers listed with M4 feed ramps. What does that mean in the Queens english? Is it a desirable feature.? I am considering a Mega upper; is this a quality piece? Thanks, Gary....

An M4 barrel has feed ramps built into it. An M4 reciever has little cutouts that feed these feed ramps. Nice to have, but not necessary. The gf has an M4 upper without the feed ramp cuts and hasn't had a single problem.

From what I understand, Mega makes good stuff. Are you looking just at an upper receiver or a complete upper?

I bought a Mega Gator lower from a member and it is finished very nicely. I was thinking an upper from Mega would match the finish; all thing being equal. I would like a complete upper set up "my way" but don't know of anyone useing a Mega upper in thier builds.

I understood sharper slope to help feeding with shorter bbl setups that have less gas power (bolt not as far back, so less power to drive foward)?

Not all M4 style barrels have a M4 barrel extension.....

M4 barrel ext were developed to increase the reliability of feeding since the shorter carbines have an increased cyclic rate.

There are 10s of thousands of carbines w/o M4 feed ramps or barrel ext that work just fine.....

However, If I am making a custom build I usually recommend getting the M4 barrel ext cause it's only a couple dollars more and another piece that can actually increase the reliablity of feeding rounds in the chamber.

I have a Bushy V-Match upper on my Registered Bushy lower w/ 16" M4 barrel. No ramps on the receiver and absolute reliability after 13 years of use. As stated earlier by Pirate 14, they were designed for the military full auto M4's to increase reliability and wouldn't really apply to our rifles. If your receiver doesn't have them, don't sweat it.

MEGA uppers are hard to get. Currently they are making their own charging handles. It makes the bad waiting time even worse.

MEGA uppers are in excellent quality.
