swapping all rifles with .22lr conversions

so its basically just a conversion bolt and new mags so if you leave all your rifles as a .22lr and store your ar15 BCGs and mags somewhere else should be GTG right?

Just curious, but why would you need to store your BCGs and mags (assuming they are legal) somewhere else?

I thought constructive intent was only federal law.

In my opinion (IANAL), a dedicated .22 upper would be okay.

A 5.56 upper with a conversion kit is still a 5.56 upper...wouldn't be hard to prove that in court.

I have a similar topic in the Rimfire forum.

Take a look at CMMG dedicated Upper.

Also, Mega Arms just posted a SWEET looking dedicated upper, but it's on the pricey side.

You old uppers are useless unless you register the lowers as AWs.

Under CA laws, constructive possession applies to DD, MG, SBR, and SBS.

There are now cases, that some DA's Office are using as case law, that have established constructive possession of assault weapons and possession of "broken" assault weapons.

Problem is, you still own them.

The Nguyen case did some damage to our cause on this front.

Got it. I didn't think about that.

So far as I'm aware, constructive possession doesn't apply to CA specific AW laws, at least not yet. If constructive possession did apply then simply stashing Part A at your home and Part B at a friend's home, you're not off the hook. Constructive possession considers control as well as physical possession, and it can be said that while Part B is at your friend's home you still maintain control.

I have a 22 lr dedicated lower (conventional mag release) and a few 22 lr uppers. Whether I configure other AR 15 lowers as featureless or register remains to be seen. It would seem to me that having a single "22 lr" lower and separate centerfire uppers, but no 22 lr upper, is unwise. Conversion kits in the centerfire uppers? Interesting, and I suppose we will soon learn what passes for lawful or not.

If the upper can shoot .223, it's not going to work. You must have a .22LR barrel. I have both, but my AR .223 1/9 is a shooter. It's way better than my .22LR barrel. It has a Ciener conversion bolt fitted. It's still under the new registration laws.
