    New RAW question.

I purchased an AR patterned rifle in 2012 from a shop that is now out of business and I don't know the exact date for AW registration. Is there a way to get DROS date for a previously purchased rifle?

Way too soon to worry about AW registration but if I was you (worried), I'd look up bank statements.

If you paid cash, did you withdraw the cash just before buying the rifle? Maybe track an ATM withdrawal.

I'm sure there's an easier way and I'm just blanking out.

when gun shops close, they are required to turn in all of their paperwork to the doj, you will have to contact them for that information

Don't worry about it. Just give them an approximate date. Just note that it is approximate or estimated. I gave them an approximate date for at least one of my rifles that I registered as a RAW in 99. Had no problems.

            I was worried about this

So I got all my paperwork together last year, in anticipation of this new laws. You broke no laws by not having your DROS, so they cannot hold you responsible for the exact date. Personally, I think it is none of their business where you legally acquired your personal property from. I would just make it up.

Let us know. I'm the same boat and it was way before 2012.

Ya, I have a gun safe just full of AR pattern rifles and lowers I've got through the years that I have no idea the dates or years purchased.

You're supposed to know the date purchased??? Good luck with that lol

Called DOJ and was told that they have no way of tracking long gun purchases prior to 2014.

Thats why I saved all my DROS paperwork. In the grand scheme of things I don't think its matters too much.

Don't forget to ask them to put you on the no-fly list also! I hear they'll do it for free!

Just estimate the date, they have no way of verifying it.

They just want to make sure the date given is between 1/1/01-12/31/17
