    AR-10 build question

Due to all the new laws that take effect in the near future. I have decided to build a AR-10. I have built AR-15's and 300blk in the past few years. I put off the AR-10 because years ago I read of problems with the build. I think feeding was large issue.
Just curious if anyone has built one, and has any feedback on potential issues or what brand and/or items to stay clear of.

    Thank you

Personally, I'd avoid Quentin Defense products. I recommend you do a search to read some good threads on LR308 aka AR10 builds.

If you want trouble free. Build with all the same brand parts. You need to understand AR-10 is Armalite. And LR-308 is DPMS. Rock river parts are another LAR-308. I have put together 11 using mostly DPMS parts.the key to get them to feed is to check the headspace.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Thanks for showing me the correct designations. I have spent so long with AR-15's and 300blk, I really had no info on the 308 builds. That should help my search a lot. I appreciate the info.

Please feel free to post any more advice.

        Thanks again

I built a .308 some years ago. From my experience, get an adjustable gas block because some of the gassing needs to be adjusted depending on what length gas system you go with.

Also , I bought a lot of parts from MEGA machine and JP. Decently priced and good quality parts.

And buy lots of ammo haha

Make sure you keep an eye on the type of upper receiver, if your going for the LR308. There's the lo profile and a high profile upper receivers.
I went with a DPMS lo pro upper on mu build. Went with a 16" Faxon mid contour barrel, used a lo profile home built adjustable gas block, and a 12" MI keymod rail. Mated with an 80% lower with CMMG LPKs. First range trip was trouble free.

Also if you're concerned with the rifle's weight, there are now lightweight parts from various sources.

here is a list of the majority of the manufacturers and what will play with what others

the pivot and takedown pins differ on some so you may need to look for those and on some the bolt catch uses the same as a regular AR-15 but some don't and some use a threaded shouldered allen cap screw to hold the bolt catch instead of a roll pin

most of the other parts cross over with the AR-15

The combination of The Gun Wiki to our system is not only in line with what we are working on, but will also serve as a means in which to build upon our ongoing projects.

As far was I know Palmetto State Armory has some propriety ar10 stuff that doesn't play nice with LR308/AR10.
People already explained the rifle patterns...Personally I went with DPMS pattern upper/lower receivers, and an Armalite barrel/BCG and I've had 0 issues - not without trial and error of buffers though because I was sent a buffer for an AR15 that screwed me over.

Feeding issues are fairly common but easily fixable, the main thing people (including myself) encounter seems to be matching the rifle length (rifle or carbine) to right combo of buffer weight and length, buffer spring, and adjusting the gas to whatever ammo is being used - I suggest maybe throwing up you build sheet and letting the board comment.

                PS
Don't be cheap on the adjustable gas block, it'll save you extra trial and error.

Just a FYI there are (3) platforms you should be aware of.

Aero Precision now makes DPMS lowers and high-profile DPMS uppers.

DPMS now makes both LR308 (original length, now lw-profile uppers) and G2 (shortened) oarts.

You also want to watch barrel extension / receiver feed ramp compatibility. Some have M4 feed ramps, some don't. An M4 receiver with feedramp cuts could produce hang-ups when paired with a traditional barrel extension. M4 barrel in traditional receiver should be OK.
