Atlantic firearms rak Russian red ak47

Why is this so much more money than other aks? Is it just a sagia with new wood ak furniture ?

I'm planning on buying an ak and am thinking of getting a nice one but I'd almost rather buy a standard sagia or vepr and upgrade the furniture to look like a traditional ak and have money left over for a vepr in 54r 23" that I will add the svd style stock and forend later

Anyone have suggestions or feed back ?

A new saiga will cost you about $700 if you can find one. That furniture is ~$200 and you'll have to mill the handguard retainer slot on the Saiga in order to fit standard furniture. Those selector markings would run you another ~$50-$100 if you want all of that done (including shipping two ways). FCG is changed out as well, but that's easy. Four holes from FCG replacement are welded over in the Atlantic version. Bullet guide is replaced ~$20. I believe you'll have to replace the FSB as well, which requires beating out the pints (not suggested) unless you have a shop press.

    edit:

You could also buy a DDI rifle. The Hungarian kit model runs $799 plus transfer/tax etc. You can then buy the russian red furniture set and replace it. That's still going to be ~$1000 and you won't have the russian markings. The one that Atlantic offers is an arsenal convert vs. US made DDI, if that matters to you.

I thought all Arsenal conversions have welded holes.

edit: nvm you're right. on the video I can see the holes not welded.

get a VEPR. sign up at legion usa or atlantic for stock updates if they are out of stock. My VEPR x54r is killa. Used it all weekend at Lake Chabot and my shoulder still has the hicky's from that Russian girl.

1300 is about the price point that they make money on them.

                  575 - Saiga
                  450 - Conversion + barrel threading + weldup + gunkote
                  150 - Parts

This is one I did and then ended up selling

Nice work on that saiga, racer!

Always cool to see a saiga with a 45 degree gas block

I wouldnt get that atlantic conversion

While i am a HUGE supporter of atlantic and their customer service, that rifle isnt cinverted far enough to be worth it. If they did what racer did and actually make it look like an akm, then wed be in business. That takes welding up a gas port and drilling a new one, though.

Saigas were $550 before the import ban and long gun registration at Turners. Saigas are pushing $900 unconverted right now. I'll trade a G43 for one

Doing the 45 degree block sucks and you have to build up a journal. 100 series barrels are the same as 74 pattern. So its a bunch of work. They came out nice and shot well. I just had to sell it unfortunately. I ended up replacing AK103 build with all russian parts.

Exactly thats why you just dont see many converted that way. Legion did a run of them but the paint they put on them was horrible. Did you take the scope rail off yours and weld up the holes?

No left the rail on and welded up all the other holes.
