    Any RPD experts?

So Iv Ben trouble shooting my rpd and I finally found a pattern and can replicate the issue.

My rpd will sometimes shoot in bursts.

Iv discovered that when I set my has setting to 2 or 3 it always happens. If I set my gas setting at 1 and tighten the gas bolt as tight as I can, it bursts.

If the gas bolt is loose on the 1 setting, it shoots fine.

When I say it bursts, it only bursts until I let go of the trigger, it's not a run away gun. If I manually cycle it, I can feel the trigger reset.

It seems like it is over gassed and it is skipping over the trigger assembly. I feel like I have to restrict the has even more by a different gas nut or a stronger spring.

    Any ideas?

depending on the manufacturer some semi machine builds have had trouble feeding regardless of the model. I would contract the manufacturer if it is an imported build I would swap the internals such as the bolt carrier.

I have no idea.. It's a project guns receiver and I bought it private party.

Was it home built on a project guns receiver or was it built by project guns?

The project guns semi parts require the pin locations to be absolutely perfect to function. I missed by about 3-4 thousandths IIRC and it did not work - Had to scrap a lower.

Edit: looks like a hand selected polish kit built on a project guns receiver.. So my guess is home build

Expect a visit from the ATF shortly.

The gun has been disassembled with certain parts at a different location until I can figure it out

I know what constructive possession is, something is malfunctioning, the reciever and all the parts are semi auto parts. In an abundance of safety, certain essential parts have been disassembled and moved to a different location from the gun. At this point I have no idea which parts are malfunctioning.

if that still doesn't take me out of hot water I don't know what will and il delete this.

Also I read somewhere that gunsmiths are exempt with a malfunctioning semi auto. Since I'm an 07 FFL, I am also a licensed by the ATF to gunsmith.

                    Anyways..
So far I have heard to find a way to restrict more gas from the system or to find stiffer springs.

If I look at the gas regulator, I wonder if it's too wide..

I found this image online and there 1 setting seems a lot smaller than mine..

Mine measures at .103 thousands at the 1 setting, .129 thousands at the 2 setting, and .153 thousands at the 3 setting

even still, I still think the problem lies with your trigger group.

Your gas regulator shouldn't act like a safety switch between semi and burst.

That's what boggles my mind.. The only weird thing is that when the gas regulator bolt is loose, the gun operates as it should

i'd reach out to Stan @ project guns. he's probably seen every kind of issue with the RPD.

I think you're crazy for talking about a malfunction of that sort on a public forum for all to see. There's plenty of cases where people have gotten in plenty of trouble for possession of a malfunctioning otherwise legal firearm.

I don't trust the ATF as far as I can throw them, and I can't throw very far.
