I am a huge AR fan have a few in 7.62x39. Ended up like you and wanted to know what I was missing so I shot one, then another. I found myself clicking on almost every post saying AK F/S .... I now own an AK. It has been failure free and fun. Ejecting rounds 15 feet away. Literally knowing everytime the trigger is pulled it will fire. Cleaning takes 10 mins and there are very few moving parts and a lot of room to work with.

Better to own one now that you have the itch then to want one and not be able to get/find/afford one. Also you do not sell to make room thats blasphemy! Just find another spot for her!

Are you a student of firearms and or collector? If so, you are missing out on first hand knowledge and experience with that particular weapon, it's function, it's capabilities, and it's weaknesses. It's one thing to read and research a particular weapon, and maybe even shoot a buddies, but it's another to hold it in your hands, strip it down, study the components and how they interact with one another. Study the construction techniques, the quality of workmanship or lack there of. Fire it from different positions. Learn it's particular manual of arms for efficient reloading, chambering and unchambering.
Every student of firearms needs an AK pattern rifle in their rack. It's worldwide popularity, history, and distribution pretty much demands it.

If you're just wanting a fine reliable rifle, then your pretty well already set.

One of the best methods of making piles of empty steel cases?

I don't get excited about the 5.56, but the 7.62x39 is a nice round - cheap, available in bulk, thumpy enough for filling a freezer.

3 years ago I would have recommended an SKS, but I don't know that they still are the value they used to be.

I do enjoy my ARs probably the most. Always kinda was meh on owning an AK for a long time..but

Then I got a wasr 10/63 when they were $400, then I bought another wasr. They are fun, I enjoy buying the cheapest ammo I can find and it eats it up and is super rugged, enjoy not picking up brass. I enjoy when I take it apart and if something is frozen up example: lever to take the top handguard off, I am not scared to grab whatever blunt object is closest to me or a hammer to give it a nice tap and not caring if bumps anything else. I enjoy not worrying about literally tossing it straight into the ground if it's overly hot and I don't have anywhere to set it (the finish is so durable it never looks any different really) Keeps on running with cheap ammo, and some white lithium grease for the rails.

I know most will say they do that to thier ARs they are tools blah blah. I'm happy for you, cool. But im sure like the majority of people out there like me they are pretty careful with thier AR, especially if it's higher end with nice cerakoted finish, I don't just trash them or do the same stuff as I would do with my AK.

Sad to say this, But I would buy one befor its too late.

I loved my AK, sold it before I moved here as I was uneducated in the laws. It always went bang, cheap ammo, no issues with the sights and you get to be different than most people at the range. Hopefully they dont get banned because Id like to build some 80%s.

I'm not sure of the tone of some people who put down the AK to praise the AR.

These are 2 of the most iconic and enduring rifles on planet earth for the last 50 years for good reason.

AK is a great rifle and fun to shoot, so is the AR. I own both and love both.

                To OP, what are you missing? If I had to sum it up in one sentence;

When I hit steel with 556 it's more of a ping. 7.62x39 is a bit more of a satisfying thud.

I own a lot of ARs and love them but if SHTF, I'm probably reaching for my AK first.

The AK will never fail you. Won't jam, won't fall apart (screws getting unloose) and they're fun as **** to shoot.

Ammo is cheap, the weapon is powerful and raw. Generally never jams and fun to shoot at range. Nice to have in a collection. Shooting my pre ban AK at a range that allows rapid fire with a 75 round drum is pretty fun. A shooter with an AR mentioned to his friend when I was shooting...wow, you keep your head down when you hear that. The kinetic force of an AK travels through your body when shooting it. It is not the most controllable or accurate weapon, but it is fun and you can feel the power. It has a very distinctive sound and easily recognizable.

It's weird, I've never had any desire to own an AK. Just not my thing. Something about a stamped-metal receiver just bothers me. I suppose maybe I'll get one some day just to "round out" the collection, but I'm in no hurry.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

The AK is way more fun to shoot the way it cycles is pure sex it is like a piston on a muscle car with a Hemi... an AR is like masterbating it is more like "boing, boing, boing"!

I really like my saiga, I enjoy it more than my ar's. Most of that is because my saiga is featureless and my ar's have bullet buttons.
