    Remington Model Five?

I've been looking for some mid-range bolt action .22LR rifles to put away for my kids. As iron sights and mag fed repeating are requirements, I've had little luck. I'd love to get them a couple 77/22s (my wife's favorite rifle) but they are too costly. The Marlin and Savage bolt actions have barrels longer then I'd like in a .22. The actions seem a little ungainly too. I'm not interested in getting them 10/22s or pump or leveractions. That's another gun all together.

Has anyone had experience with the Remington Model Five? It comes in a 16" barrel variant (with wood that the young ones could knock around and get replaced when they are older), is mag fed and has iron sights. The price is right, even at MSRP, (if it's cheaper at the gunshop that's a bonus!) I'd be happier with a bolt that has locking lugs (rather then using the bolt handle to lock the action) and if it was drilled and tapped for Real bases in addition to ".22" grooves.

Any first hand knowledge would be appreciated.

    Thanks
