AR 15 Newbie First time shooter

100 yds using LWRC with Leupold. I think this was a pretty accurate Riffle, I am building a lower right now im hoping to get the same success.

Better work on the accuracy.I see where there is some work to do.Shooter skill, the components that make up the rifle and ammo are a big deal in shrinking that group.

Ditch the bipod and using a proper rest will increase accuracy.. For 100 yards with that scope that groupings is actually very bad.. U should aim for less than 1" groupings at 100 yards

I'm sure you have heard about sub Moa rifles..

MOA stands for minute of angle

1 Moa at 100 yards is 1 inch
1 moa at 200 yards is 2 inches
1 moa at 300 yards is 3 inches
1 moa at 1000 yards is 10 inches

A good rifle will be sub moa.. Meaning less than 1 inch at 100 yards or less than 2 inch groupings at 200 yards.

With size comparison, your target appears to have 5 MOA groupings.

usually Groupings are measured in 3-5 shot groups so it's hard to tell what groupings that rifle is actually getting

I thought that was a shotgun spread at first.

Guys, he's new. He even said so, lay off.

          What's the ammo?
You should try and find a coach or shoot a CMP match/appleseed somewhere local to you, something is going wrong in the system (scope, bipod, ammo, anticipating the shot, trigger control, focus, etc) that will be quickly and easily addressed by someone watching you shoot.

If you are in SoCal hit me up. If you are in the Sac area Highpower above comes across as a dick on the internet but he's a great guy and a good coach.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

Maybe he was shooting off hand (no rest)?

                OP,

Welcome and congrats for getting out there.

Accuracy will come, I might like to suggest attending an Appleseed Event.

Also, try different ammo weights. One of my rifles absolutely hates 55gr, it only did well with my 64gr+ premium ammo. With 55gr I had 4" groups, while my other rifle did 1.5" with the same ammo on the same range day.
That's probably because your rifle has a 1:7" twist barrel... Also when talking about group size, remember to mention distance and what sights you are using.. 4" groups at 400+ yards is excellent. 1.5" groups at 100 yards is not even Moa but is great if you are using iron sights or no magnification

Welcome to the calguns! Great rifle and scope. Go out buy some different ammo and find out what your rifle likes. I always try 6 to 7 different grains and manufactorers with any rifle I buy because they all like different ammo unless you reload which I do not.

That's a great looking rifle. Pay no attention to the naysayers, your groups were fine for a newbie. They all think they were sub-MOA shooters from day one. Selective memory. Anyways, your group will tighten up quickly as you get the hang of your trigger control, flinching, breathing, proper bench rest, etc. If you shot 5moa this trip, you'll probably shoot 3.5-4moa on your next trip, 3moa the trip after that... practice makes perfect. But don't let yourself develop bad habits, have a professional evaluate your shooting now, to correct any errors while they're still easy to correct. Old habits die hard.

One of the best tips I ever got as a beginner, was to let the trigger break surprise me. If you make a conscious effort to break the trigger, you'll flinch (as a beginner). Just slowly squeeze the trigger and let the gunshot surprise you - trust me, your jumping reflex doesn't happen until well after the bullet has already impacted the target. As you gain experience, this strategy is less useful, but it's a great place to start IMO.

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

I agree, except since he's building a rifle, and he hopes to have the same success, we should at least let him know what to aim for...

                          Not enough info.
                          What type of projectiles?
What type of shooting? Bench? Offhand?

You need to snap in a little bit at home and ditch the anti-aircraft mount. Take your time. Don't be in a hurry. Relaxe and breathe and don't squeeze that trigger until you know your ready. Those good cartridges are expensive. Make them count.
