Two excellent choices given your needs/desires...

I would be happy with either at those prices.

If you enjoy your purchase, you will be back for more anyway.

Kind of like the 1911 fans. One is never enough.

Doesn't white oak armory make an a4 upper that is a national match grade and free floated? Might be worth looking into.

I really doubt that I buy another one, this one is to be a multi purpose rifle. It's biggest purpose is to be a hunting rifle but yes it will go to the range from time to time. If for nothing else to develop some hand loads beyond finding the factory ammo that it likes and shoots best with. If I were younger I might get into them more, there is my oldest grandson who wants one of these so it could end up being his. It would make a nice piece to go with the Kimber Custom II .45 that he has already spoken for. Thanks again for all that contributed to this thread.

I'd go with the FN.. IMO Colt is not what it used to be. FN makes high quality rifles and they'll back it up. Not only that, but like you said, readily available

Yes they do. I have one and it's an absolute laser with match ammo. That said, it's very heavy and is really geared toward bench or competition use. If that is what you're interested in I highly recommend it. Did I mention that it's heavy?

I recently bought an FN15 20" to check the box the op is working on, though I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

The best quality vs. cost would be a Colt or a BCM.

Colts are the benchmark. BCM is a better choice than FN for an AR15 style rifle, in my view.

              Try www.gandrtactical.com for the BCM.

The colts A4's come with "illegal" roll markings, or at least risky. i think they say AR-15A4 which most feel is probably on on-list lower. So, for a colt, you need an A4 upper mated to a lower with M4 roll marks (like from a 6920CA model). Welcome to California. Dont forget the bullet button.

              Enjoy your new rifle.

Which ever rifle I/we end up with it will "never" be seen in California, their laws are meaningless here and to me personalty. I do feel bad for some of the gun owners that had no part in California gun law insanity but that's a whole different kettle of fish. Regards

BCM, Daniel defense, Spikes tactical. I like how many people are recommending FNH just because they won the military contract recently, lol. From the reports I've read of troops in contact, specifically Wannat, I would never touch a Colt rifle. Every rifle there jammed and failed to operate due to the high volume of fire being put through them.

Havent shot my FN 20" yet but I will say the quality appears to be excellent compared to colt. Much darker finish and no blemishes like you often see in colt receivers.
