    Muzzle brake installation question

I'm considering upgrading my stock muzzle brake using a barrel thread adapter to fit the new brake.

Is is just as simple as unscrewing the old brake and adding the adaper and new brake? Is there anything special I need to know for the install? Special washers? Torque settings?

What are the pros and cons of using an adaper as opposed to chopping and re-threading?

Why are you not wanting to use a brake that is cut for how your barrel is threaded?

Without more information about what you're attempting its hard to say. I could see a few issues with your plan. Mainly I'm not sure how you're going to time the brake if you don't have a shoulder to torque against.

Tell us a little more about what you're trying to do and what thread patterns you're dealing with.

What rifle are you trying to replace the brake on? And why not just get a properly threaded brake?

I have a sig mpx 9mm, so the thread is not really standard. I think the adaper I need is this.

          US Machinegun.com: Providing gun parts for AK-47 PARTS,AR-15 ACCESSORIES,BRASS CATCHERS,DESERT EAGLE EXTRAS,FAKE SUPPRESSORS,GENTLY USED PARTS,GLOCK EXTRAS & PARTS,GRIPS,GUN CASES AND SLINGS,GUNS FOR SALE,M-11 & M12 SEMI AUTO PARTS,M-11 SMG REPLACEMENT PARTS,M-11 SMG UPGRADES,M-12 & M-11 .380 PARTS,MAC TOOLS,MAC-10 SEMI AUTO PARTS,MAC-10 SMG REPLACEMENT PARTS,MAC-10 SMG UPGRADES,MAGAZINE POUCHES & BELTS,MAGAZINES AND DRUMS,MANUALS & BOOKS REAR STOCKS,SCOPES & LASERS,SHOTGUN UPGRADES,SIG SAUER EXTRAS,SPEED LOADERS,SUPPRESSORS,THREAD ADAPTERS,THREAD PROTECTORS,UZI PARTS,WALTHER COMPONENTS

The mpx is Female 13.5x1 LH
The adaper will change it to 1/2x28 RH.

The brake that I want is has a 1/2x28 thread so the adaper should fit the bill I think.

            You have 3 options here.

            1. Use a crush washer ($2)
            2. Use a peel washer / washer set ($5-$20)
            3. Get it timed from a gunsmith (approx $20)

If you go with option 1 or 2 all you need is a wrench. You just keep twisting it until its on correctly (lined up etc).

A 60$ thread adapter to install a MB on a 9mm that has little to no flash signature or significant blast when fired is not cost effective, nor logical.

Glad I wasn't the only one who was thinking that.

OP, I'd look for brakes threaded for that or get an unthreaded one and have a gunsmith thread it rather than using the adapter.

What makes it double redundant is the same company that sells the $60 thread adapter the OP mentioned also sells a muzzle device that is the correct thread for the OP's MPX for $50. I tried to do the math and it just doesn't compute.
