I was at a local shop a few weeks back looking for a 5.56 muzzle break. I bought a Surefire comp that was on sale for 50. Well guess who was being a dum dum and didnt bother to look at the fine print [308]. And guess who doesn't have a return policy? Then I got a brilliant 💡. I decided to replace my factory Chevron muzzle break on my AK with the Surefire.
I ordered a 5/8x24 to 14x1 LH adapter for about 20 bucks and when it arrived, I realized how difficult it is to tighten an adapter that has conflicting thread hands. I was able to get it on somewhat securely with some loctite, but the adapter itself is still not torqued all the way down. However, the adapter has 4 notches at the bottom that I assume are there on purpose to mate with the spring loaded post that are on a lot of AK front posts. So the comp is tight on the adapter, but I cannot tighten the adapter any further without once again loosening the comp from the adapter. After i go as far as I can with the adapter. The spring loaded detent on the front sight post lands in the middle of two notches. Sticky situation right? So i was forced to back off the adapter about a quarter turn so that the sight post plunger catches one of the notches.
So my question is should I be GTG with this setup? I would hate to get keyholing or even worse tiny metal shards flying off the Comp at very high speeds in all directions. And a waste of 60 bucks. Should i cut my losses and sell the comp and adapter and start over with a true AK muzzle comp?
I appreciate the wisdom.
