    DSA SA58 noob ?'s

Picked up a DSA SA58 .308 just because. Know what I mean? Just because. I dig semi 308 in all its' delicious flavors. FAL platform no clue always stayed away from it and all it's variances--inches this metric that, this manufacturer and that pattern and this country and that historic detail and congo this and Belgium that.....and all these quotes about the free arm of the free world.....gaaack.....but 308......
Stock trigger is decent. Iron sights are ghastly. BB is awkward. Mags are pricey. Very fun to shoot despite many obvious flaws.
    So here's my ?'s......

My Google foo went negative on me. Is this a Belgian left-handed ghastly euro abomination alien-threaded nightmare of a barrel-end device brake that must be suffered and endured and ultimately totally hated or can I install a normal .30 brake..........

I'm a plinker. Four rails don't mean jack but added weight. But I like the bottom rail. Don't see many options.

Solid stock.....The stock has grown on me the more I shoot this frankenrifle. But I am used to adjustable AR-style stuff.......

Best battle rifle out there..besides that high priced scar17 though .

I dont know the threads but if not answered here..falfiles will know 100%.

The hand guard is terrible, but i do like a mostly original. ..right arm of the free world.

Love me some fals..especially wearing wood

Dsa sells a variety of flash hides and brakes on their website. I'm partial to the steyr short but they have a lot in the correct thread pattern.
Check back later for a witty comment.

You can use the stock from a SAW on there or modified SCAR one -check the FAL files. I have an R1A1 with the integrated bipod/stock and was thinking about the rail.

FALs are soo much fun, I got one and want a second.

Original FALs had a weird thread, 9/16x24 LH IIRC. Most barrels are so thin there aren't a lot of pitches you can use unless your barrel is thicker. I think DSA has used different treads for different barrel contours.

So are you complaining about the number of variances in the FAL rifle, or just confused? If confused, you need to do your research on the FAL Files.

            It's FWRA...Free World's Right Arm.

Your so-called ghastly euro blah blah muzzle brake is actually a California neutered Austrian flash hider. If the slots in the front are cut across the diameter of the brake, you're able to use the brake as a wire cutter. You can replace it with any brake that has the correct thread...and there are many choices. FAL Files again.:roll eyes:

You can also replace the metric rear sight with something different.

The hand guard can be swapped easily. Adapters to fit an adjustable stock are available, both solid and folding.

Congratulations on your FAL. Did I mention the FAL Files??

"Mags are pricey"...and some are junk. I purchased a couple of the 10 round magazines from DSA at about 25 bucks a pop, and at least 1 of them consistently fails to feed my hungry DSA FAL. I am sure the magazine is fully seated in the receiver. Maybe I got a lemon. I haven't tried the other mag....But I love this rifle...a lot better than the Century Arms L1A1 junk I had years ago.

yea, the DSA 10 round mags are total garbage. I bought 3, 2 will feed maybe every 4th or 5th round. Milsurplus mags feed 100%, all the time. Dont waste your money with DSA

Thanks guys......couple other notes......manufacturer recommends 147grainers.......coincidentally my local Big5 sells PMC 150's at a decent price.....looking for a fixed 4, 5, or 6x scope with illum but not shelling out for my favorite Trij stuff on this one.......any ideas"

                      Yes....shoot irons

Fal is not a great rifle for optics. I do have a couple arms 4 mounts and a limited run of when Grenadier Precision made mounts.

I like to be 100% proficient in irons. .

I like red dots so with a Dsa mount and a Bushnell TRS w/o mount it sit low enough to be extremely comfortable. I bought it with a weaver 1-4x with low rings and a PRS stock on it. Worked well enough.

                          i second with this statement.

Save the scope for the AR10 or something with some more precision. I can shoot a man size group at 100 yards with irons (and i'm not a great shot) but thats about all I think she has in her.

Mine in all Imbel, with a 17.2" barrel (para length)
