is HK USC a short-barrelled rifle?

I am considering getting an HK USC rifle (with some sort of mag lock) but I saw on the HK website that the barrel length was 15.98"". Does this violate some State of Kalifornia short-barrel rifle restriction?

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that barrel lengths must exceed 16". Thx for the help!

It must exceed 16", yes. It can, however, have a perm. flash hider or muzzle brake attached to total the 16" requirement.

      16"

It is a Federal requirement. Not California alone.

thx! that makes sense. You would think that HK would just make the barrell length 16.02"" to be clear

They're 16" barrels. That measurement is probably from the chamber to muzzle. Fed and CA measurements are from muzzle to bolt face with a closed bolt.

The USC was designed in response to the Clinton Ban, in order to meet federal regulations of the time. The barrel length is 16". What you are seeing on the website is a poor metric conversion. I have phoned HK several times about their barrel length error, each time I was told it was being fixed. When I bought mine, the shop I used to transfer would not initially give me the gun until got an HK tech on the phone to clear the issue.

Very intriguing! Maybe if we all contacted them at once they would get the hint?
