Magpul Moe Milspec Buffer Tube Fitment (tight)

So, I had a comercial, finally got a mil-spec buffer tube, and now its a super tight fit.

The damn thing won't even really go onto the stock without a lot of force. Is there more than 2 different sized buffer tubes?

Anyhow the guy I bought the tube from claims its mil-spec and its definitly smaller than the commercial, it appears to be just about the right size, but its to snug on the rounder part of the tube. The only way to move the stock is to use a hammer with cloth to protect the stock and so forth...

Any tips on this? am I in the wrong fitment?

If you have some calipers bust them out and take a measurement. The mil-spec tube has a diamter of 1.14" and the commercial is 1.17". You can also identify the commercial tube by the slanted end. Make sure you are mating a mil-spec stock to a mil-spec tube. I wouldn't advise banging it on with a hammer!

I don't have a caliper, but are there more than 2 different tube sizes?

The first tube(which I assumed to be commercial) was huge and the square portion didn't even fit by a longshot.

This second tube (which I assume to be milspec) looks the right size, but is a super tight squeeze? Possible my milspec stock is not built to the right tolerence?

I doubt the stock is out of spec - those all come out of the same mould. If anything it sounds like your tube is out of spec - what brand is it/where did you get it?

IIRC there's no friction lock on the MOE. Only on the CTR.

Definitely don't start hammering, try getting it on and working it back and forth. Or even better as shark suggested, try measuring just to make sure. My Vltor stock was very tight at first, just needed to break it in.

Are you butting the locking mechanism against the back of the extension? You can't just use the release like you're adjusting LOP.

You're right - I was thinking they both used a friction setup with the CTR having the additional positive lock out. Mine was very tight on the tube too - takes a little bit to work it in.
