So ive decided to make my new oll a featureless build. I have the A2 stock an have decided to go with the MMG. The part im unsure of is the upper, would it be better to go with a plain barrel, muzzle break, or fake can. Right now im leaning towards the spikes fake can, the CAR 1. Additionally, would these have to be permanately attached to the barrel if it is 16 inches or more, I can't see how it would, the threads wouldnt be counted as a feature. Am I correct? Any recommendations? Thank you.

Threads on a rifle is not a prohibited CA feature. I'd go with a muzzle brake and it doesn't have to be perm. attached if the barrel is 16in or more.sigpic

I would have a paper from the manufacturer saying that it's a muzzle brake and not a flash hider/suppresser. C.Y.A.

The only thing with the break is that im worried an uninformed LEO might mistake it for a flash supressor. Does this happen, or are they visually different enough to tell. (I don't own anything with a break)
Edit: looks like your adressing my concern before I could.Last edited by oldschool88; 12-28-2008, 10:56 PM.

Thats why you should have some paperwork just in case. Don't want to end up in the pokey over some B.S. AW charge. Thats exactly why I went with the bull barrel.
Thats what we do brother. C.Y.A.There are 3 kinds of people in this world.

If an LEO is informed enough to know that a flash suppressor counts as a feature, than most likely he/she would know the difference. CYA is always the best suggestion though.A citizen who shirks his duty to contribute to the security of his community is little better than the criminal who threatens it.Comment

Ya I think I'd prefer not to deal with the hassle, and jail isn't really my thing. But then again the fake can could run into the same issue.

If you were to put a fake can on there, I'd be more worried that the a LEO would think that it was real, than mistaking a muzzle brake for a flash suppressor. If you buy a device that the manufacture says and advertise as a MB, that should be fine.sigpic

Off topic. Toolfreak66, dude I love the sig line.
On topic, even if the LEO knows the difference, will his/her boss? Play it safe bro. I.M.H.O.There are 3 kinds of people in this world.

Well then the same leo would be busting countless springfield m1a's in California by the thousands out there for the brakes installed on them at the factory.
BTW - I wouldn't go with a "fake can" simply because the idea is plain silly to me personally (and a bit "airsoft"). I would side with functional pieces - therefore a brake.

Good call, didn't think of that. Are there any brakes that have something to the effect of "muzzle break" printed on them?

I'd go with a brake for sure. A fake can is cool if that's the look you're going for, but the brake adds looks, functionality, and it's not an AW feature.Dom

Some brakes are obviously that.
PWS, SureFire, OPS Inc all make nice ones.
