    1st cleanup

Just bought a Bersa .380, took it apart and it is full of "preservative".

took a can of D.O.T. 4 break fluid to it. It cut everything almost instantly
and wiped clean as a whistle, and it doesn't stink like Hoppes.
I think I found a decent gun cleaner for indoors.

I thought that stuff was pretty gnarly ...I had it take paint off I thought of something years ago or maybe it was anodize...

Ahh I forget what it was, I just thought it was not good except for brakes.

Very cool to know that is a option.

I'm glad you posted the smileys next to indoors.

Just in case anyone misses the humor:

DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER (OR CARB CLEANER) INDOORS!

At least for those who value their brain cells and nervous system...

I use it to melt cosmoline off of the metal parts on milsurp rifles. Works like a charm. Warning, it will kill the finish on the furniture and lay waste to plastics.

Edit: I was referring to Brake Cleaner, not Brake fluid.

Ok so what is being said here is we can use it when the cosmoline is heavy and the furniture is off?

But whatever you do do not leave it on for long cuz it will jack up your finish...?

                  Interesting...

Brake FLUID not brake CLEANER. It doesn't stink up the house.

It did not removed the paint on the sights.

It did not ruin the rubber grips.

It did not ruin the bluing.

I did not just dump the gun in it, I brushed it on carefully, scrubbed it off immediately then wiped the weapon down and dried it carefully.
Checked firearm this morning and all is well with it, no harm done and I have a squeaky clean and properly lubed sidearm.

                            CORRECT!

I've decided that this is the greatest stuff for de greasing. Why?

It's odorless and can be used inside.
It cuts the grease and preservative almost instantly.
It's easier to find than CLP brake cleaner.
Just don't use it on paint or rubber, although the little bit that got on the rubber grips didn't harm it.
                            It didn't remove the bluing.

                              FYI,

Brake Fluid is hygroscopic.. absorbs moisture. It'll eat the paint off your car if you leave it on there Long enuff.
