2 hours, 2 weeks...this is so-cal. We live in a desert. The drier it is the less effect corrosive ammo has.

I think the only time I considered buying Red army standard or Wolf gold is the fact some ranges want you to use it over steel core stuff. But im a cheapo and don't want to spend that much.

7.62x39 is relatively easy on barrels compared to something like 5.56 considering the low velocity and whatnot so don't worry.

I've never known AK guys to worry about their barrels being worn out. They don't seem to worry about dropping their guns on carpet either. The scratch from the safety lever, however...

Lol... bimetal breaks guns now? I love the neo-fuddlore. Just don't magdump your bimetal ammo. Steel case ammo has no definitive proof that it causes more wear... Soup cans are made of metal, but i can crush them with my soft hand.... same idea as the bimetal jacket.. having a soft lead layer underneath that easily deforms

Exactly. We're not talking about some 4000fps barrel burner.

There is still red army standard copper jacketed ammo, I haven't seen any for sale in a while though.

Let me try to put this into perspective:

Some 7.62x39 ammo might "destroy" your AK barrel in as few as 10,000 rounds. Maybe.
Some 7.62x39 ammo might be gentler on your AK barrel and make it last for 20,000+ rounds. Maybe.

The cost of a nice new hammer-forged chrome-lined barrel is about $300.
K-Var specializes in the AK market offering AK rifles, parts, and accessories. We also now carry AR-15 as well as many other popular calibers and styles of firearms, parts, and accessories.

Basic 7.62x39 ammo (Wolf, Tula, Brown Bear, Golden Tiger, etc.) costs about $0.24 per round. Top-of-the-line ammo costs about $0.30 per round.

So in other words: you're wondering whether you'll have to spend $2400 or $6000 on ammo before you have to spend $300 on a new barrel...

If you buy the cheap stuff, shoot 10,000 rounds, re-barrel, shoot another 10,000 rounds, you would still "only" be spending $5100, and "saving" $900 over shooting the expensive stuff.

Combloc Hammer Forged barrels (like those found in the lowly WASR) have been shown to last over 100,000 rounds, when used in full auto mode and 100% steel cased ammo.

YOU WILL LIKELY NEVER SHOOT OUT THE BARREL ON YOUR AK.

Just get whatever works for you logistically and stop worrying about it.
