Build upper?

What's involved here? I'm getting a little impatient on my first build and a little worried that by the time my order # comes up, parts will no longer be around.
Seems like most upper parts are out there but I'm not even sure what all I need. BCG, charging handle, gas tube, hand guards, barrel?
Any bay area gunsmiths that can/will assemble it?
Should I just wait for an assembled upper?

For a first time, I would get a complete upper. You will need tools (action blocks, punches, multi tool, torque wrench, stuff like that) and a couple other small parts. Upper, delta assembly, barrel nut, gas tube, handguards, front sight, roll pins, BCG and charging handle to name a few. Ive never done it from scratch, so I could be missing some, or maybe ive complicated it. PM AR15 Barrels (Randall), he can give you the whole blueprint and whats involved.

Good luck getting all the parts for a complete upper. I've been told "early spring" for all my stuff and I've got thousands of dollars in orders I placed. YHM is backordered 5,800 upper receivers (just the receivers, not the assemblies) when I placed my order a few weeks ago.

Is the barrel the hardest part to get right now? I've been abale to find BCG's and upper receivers in stock here and there. Charging handles too.
Can't seem to find a barrel though. Maybe just looking in the wrong places.
