    CMP Question?

How does one shoot a CMP high-power match with a bullet button? As in rapid fire, Mag change 70- 90 second rounds. thank you

No different than going without .Fire 2 or five shots, dump mag, reload fire balance of 5 or eight, all shots within 60 or 70 seconds.BB costs a couple seconds but really isn't a big deal to overcome.
      Keep it simple!

Easy, practice with it. EIC points even gold medals have been won shooting a BB AR.

Not a big deal. Keep a bullet in your pocket and you could drop your mag really quick. Think about doing it with a Garand....

Use your Empty Chamber Indicator ("ECI") as your bullet button tool.

Takes about a second or so to carry out, plenty of time for either the 200 or 300 rapid fire stage. Not a big deal

If you are in the Los Angeles, CA, area, show up to our match, third Sunday of each month.

Keep the ECI right next to your 8 round mag. Slow makes you smooth, smooth becomes fast

Not a problem. It's called rapid fire but it's more like timed fire. Using your safety flag to drop the mag takes one extra second. I always finish too fast and always have time left.

                    HaHa.
Shot my first CMP match with a bolt gun without stripper clips. BTW I am right handed but shoot left handed. Still made 10 shots for record.
Always seemed there was all the time in the world shooting a Garand!

It is 10 rounds in 60 seconds, and a bullet button does not hinder at all in NRA/CMP High Power. It takes very little practice. Use your ECI, like people have indicated. While you're doing the mag change, you're taking that same time to look through your spotting scope to verify wind conditions between magazines, so you're not losing more than an extra second or so.

If you're not finishing the rapid fire stage with at least 5 seconds to spare, I'm going to guess your position was bad to begin with.

                        What Ocabj said.

Especially with regard to NRA matches in the XTC format you should have plenty of time. Those 5 seconds to spare will be used for getting into position during a proper CMP/LEG match. I've been having problems with sitting so I take all the time, but my prone is really going well right now and even in a LEG match I have lots of time left. A good position that is tight and straight forward (rather than angled) means the rifle doesn't move past the number boards in recoil.

I use my ECI to mark where my support elbow is going to go so when I go for the mag the ECI is right under my face, I keep a backup appleseed ECI next to my magazine stack so that if I bump the primary out of the way I can just grab the secondary. I know guys who use the BB tool attached to the magazine, and they grab the second mag, use it to drop the first mag and slam it in. You can certainly be faster in the mag change with a RAW and proper mag release (just look at Ocabj's video here) but it's not a big enough portion of your rapid fire process to cause a problem.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

Edit: It's not a problem on an AR15 because the AR spits the magazine out. On a M1A with a mag block, it would be a bit tricky.

Here is why mag swap speed doesn't matter. See how rock solid the position is? See how fast you are back on target?
