    AR, M4 ejector question

I have a 17" M4 clone and a 20" heavy barrel A2 clone both in the 5.56 caliber. Both have been fed the 55 grain American Eagle brand. Only because i've been plinking at the range and not hunting or in competition. But lately I have noticed that both rifles have been ejecting the spent rounds down my shirt and not deflecting straight out 90 degrees or less. The three ring gas ring as picture shows. Looked at the gap alignment to make sure they are opposing and they are.

Get BCM's AR15 gas rings for increased reliability for your AR15, M16, or M4 bolt assembly.

Note: I am left eye dominate left hander, shooting left hand, with a right hand ejection port. Please don't criticize me. I went to youtube to see what I could find and came up empty handed. Also I noticed the youtube shooters casing are deflecting away from the shooter. With my 1911-A1 I can pull the extractor out, bend it and control the ejection direction. Can the AR, M4, M16 style rifle ejector be bent like the 1911? Thanks.

It is not likely that both rifles become mechanically under gassed at the same time.
AR clones don't have bendables available to quickly adjust eject patterns.

I shoot lefty/righty and never experienced a hot empty going anywhere near my shirt.
Do you tend to shoot while crowding the right side of the rifle?

Since both rifles do the same thing with the same ammo I would suspect the ammo.
        Try some different ammo.

You can adjust the power of your extractor spring. If you take out your extractor and see a blue spring guide, you probably have the weakest spring. BCM has an extractor spring upgrade that comes with a stronger bushing, spring, and O-ring. You can try different combinations.

Will do. I'm still learning a lot about the AR platform. So as far as the bolt and extractor assembly what all needs to be checked while out? There is the spring, "O" ring assembly, firing pin, extractor claw. Any one of them could be the culprit. Next is to inspect each part of both AR's. Thanks.

Focus on ammo, then springs (assuming the rifles have a similar round count). It's unlikely that the gas rings, extractor claw, gas block, etc. developed problems in both rifles at the same time.

On ammo, I think the Federal American Eagle comes in both 5.56 and .223 flavors - the .223 may be a little less powerful and if so would shift ejection to the rear.

Finally, your ejection angle is probably just fine aside from getting brass down your shirt, so non-rifle solutions (a brass catcher, a turtleneck, a change in form) are worth considering as well.

I consider the turtleneck but I did not want to be a Jerry Brown clone.... Ha!
