even when cycling my charging handle by hand the lock out doesnt work consistantly when it does lock it some times releases on its own where do i start

I think the easiest thing to check first is to borrow a friend's mag and try it again. It's usually a bad mag.Comment

update on all my problems lol- went to cws got an lmt bolt assembly lubed and cleaned everything took it out this morning worked perfect short stroking problem solved as for the mag lock out still not consistant it worked a few times thoughpower corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutelyComment

Check the Mag spring make sure its in correct, I had that problem.
It happend on my C Products 10/30 If you look threw the mag catch hole on the mag the spring coil should aim towards the the tip of the bullet.

Wait.... what magazine do you have? I had seen Promag(not P-Mag) w/ or w/o Magpul follower not being about to consistantly engage the bolt catch.
The rear materials(thickness of the magazine wall near the bolt catch) of Promag somehow are thicker, that may lead to the follower not being able to get to the bolt catch.- LL
