Hello calgunners, i recently purchased one of the PSA PA10 stripped lower receivers from palmetto state armory. They recommend we only use their brand to put my lower together but i was wondering if any of you have used anyone elses lower parts kit or uppers and what brands did you use. I was hoping to use a 308 DPMS lower parts kit. I also want to install a magpul UBR stock but not sure what buffer tube, buffer and spring i need. Any help would be appreciated..thanks

When I got mine PA10 lower, I first put it together using an AR15 LPK(Lower Parts Kit). Then I found out that they have 4 parts specifically for the PA10. So, I bought that set and installed it. It consists of the hinge and take down pins, the bolt stop, and the mag catch. I really couldn't see any difference between the two mag catches, but that might be just me.
As for the uppers. I used one of their barreled uppers on my build. I have read comments that their uppers/lowers won't fit others, but then I have also read the opposite. So, to prevent problems, I just went with theirs.
Are you planning on a complete build? Or getting a barrel upper and putting it on?
Their stripped uppers are on sale, and the blemmed ones for only $69.99, which is half the price of a standard stripped upper.Comment

I will probably be using one of their barreled uppers that i happen to like. I guess im more concerned about the lower parts kit i wanted to purchase. When I got mine PA10 lower, I first put it together using an AR15 LPK(Lower Parts Kit). I purchased one of their blemished lowers for $74 a week ago and was looking at buying a 308 DPMS lower parts kit i saw on rainierarms.com but im scared to buy it and find out later that its not compatible. Thanks for the infoComment

Pretty dang sure its gonna be DPMS pattern. There is just confusion with AR-10 vs DPMS parts.Comment

Get a complete lower and you wont have to worry about what parts kit you need. I got a complete psa pa10 lower. Fast shipping. Quality is decent. I considered getting a psa upper but they are almost always out of stock and I have read that their uppers have all kinds of issues. I found another place that says their upper will work with the psa lower so I'm going to give it a shot. I'll let you guys know how it goes.Comment

I agree, but how would they solve their issue without coming out with a new pattern upper? I offered a complete upper plus the LPK upgrade kit to the OP, but he wasn't sure if he could put the upper together, so he passed. I have since sold it to another member.
The things I know about which make the PA-10 incompatible with other parts is that the upper doesn't fit perfectly in many cases because of the pattern they used. This is not the case if you have a PA-10 lower and PA-10 upper, they fit as they should and one would expect so.
The other annoyances are the unique bolt catch, mag catch, and pins. The reason for that is the PA-10 lower is narrower, as-is the upper. Even if you have another lower that you use the PA-10 upper with, the bolt catch lever is too thick. You can work around that by grinding some material off the back of the bolt catch, but will need to put some alumahyde or similar on the exposed material. The mag catch is narrower also, I guess you could get around that by cutting a portion of the thread off, but it seems easier to get the upgrade kit. The pins are narrower also, because the lower is narrower.
I would emphasize your first comment above: "You're better off getting both PSA upper/lower plus their LPKs."sigpic--------- liber --------

You can use any LPK you like but you will need this : http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-p...grade-kit.html , from PSA. As already mentioned, pivot/take-down pins, bolt and mag catch are proprietary.Comment
