    Life expectancy of AR-15

Hey all. Noob to the game here. I bought my first AR-15 which is a Del-Ton a couple of weeks ago. I know a lot of the life AR-15 depends on what the barrel is made out of, how many rounds go through it, etc... but what is the general rule of thumb for life expectancy of the AR-15? Can a cheaper lower end AR-15 that goes through thousands and thousands of rounds that is well-maintained live longer than a higher end AR?

    I'm just curious.

About 1000rds is the norm before you need to re-rifle the barrel and change the buffer and spring. Around another 500 and the friction from the bolt will wear the inside of the reciever causing bolt bounce and can create a hole in one side.
If that doesnt happen first the violent striking of the hammer on the bolt will cause the rear of the bolt to be weakened and or the hammer itself to crack.
Good luck with your new rifle!

Your AR should last you a really long time as long as you keep it clean and lubed. Just look at this video

1000 rounds and have to rerifle the barrel. You are a funny funny guy.
How did you lose your hands?

            A Del-Ton? I give it 100 rounds -- tops.
J/K. It will last for 10s of thousands of rounds.

I have a Colt that I've had since I was 17. That was in 1978. Still as crappy as ever. Functions exactly the same now, as it did on day 1. Probably 12-15,000 rounds through it, but I keep it well maintained. If I didn't, it would spaz on me and quit working.

                3" MOA hasn't changed.

You're kidding, right? See my above post. As long as it doesn't have polymer parts, it should last a couple lifetimes if well cared for. Del-Ton isn't a bad quality AR. The only AR I consider poor quality for a lifetime of use are ones with polymer lowers, and Oly Arms, 7.62X39. I don't know about Oly Arms 5.56, but I wouldn't trust it. Maybe someone has a rebuttal for me on this.

my current m4 issued to me at work, I've had for the last four and a half years or so. It was not new or had new parts when I got it. I've put well over 1000 rounds through it. I've put lots, and I mean lots more. Do you realize how ridiculous it would be for the military to replace barrels every 1000 rounds?
