Never knew the Galil had a built in bottle opener!

The old Galil ARMs are very cool guns. Most of the ARMs that made it into the States actually didn't have the bottle opener on them, but a few did indeed have them. They all have barbed-wire cutters built into the bipod, though. That's also a cool feature.Comment

So many more interesting things in that article than bottle openers lol
But if you truly felt you needed one, get this baby

I know Galil's were everywhere when the wife and I went to Peru. I was told they made their own domestically under a licensing agreement with IMI. They've since changed over to the SCAR H.Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.Comment

I learned about Galils in the mid '80s and just had to get one. The distributor I worked with at the time had a bunch of them fresh off the boat from Israel, and offered a deal if I bought a few. I unfortunately sold all but one over the years (didn't want to register a ton of assault rifles, so I sold before the registration law went into effect), but I kept a NIB Galil ARM along with a few other rare guns. It's one of the early ones that did indeed have the bottle opener. Was looking at it the other day, and even the Tritium night sights still glow a little bit. It also has the original "IMI GALIL" cardboard box - not the "GALIL Sporter" box that tried to make it a hunting gun.

I was pissed when I got the Valmet and it did not have the Military 3 Prong Wire Cutter/Flash Supressor.
Umm probably a good thing looking back. My luck the barrel would have exploded the first time I tried to cut wire with it.Last edited by ElvenSoul; 11-30-2015, 4:41 PM.sigpicComment

In hindsight, I wish I would have kept everything. I have a few buddies that did keep everything, and they're scratching their heads on what to do with them now that they're about to retire and need the cash, but heck - I'd rather have that problem than be kicking myself for unloading a bunch of very cool guns.Comment

All ARM-model Galils had bipods and therefore had bottle openers - as it's the "claw" that retains the bipod legs (in the folded position) that serves as the opener.Comment

Interesting to know. I was under the impression that the later "claw" was often used as a bottle opener, but it wasn't the original part that was used by IMI. I was told that the early imported ones had the original part, and then the part got changed later on as the importer moved further and further away from the full-auto ARM. The later claw could still be used to open bottles, but it wasn't quite as clean and smooth as the originally designed Coke-bottle opener that was on the actual full-auto ARMs made by IMI for their military. I could be wrong though - this is stuff I've heard over the years from Galil collectors, and there aren't a whole lot of them around.Comment

That said, I do not know what FA military Galils had. However, between 1983-89' I was a Magnum Research / Action Arms dealer (right here in CA no less!) and sold both AR and ARM Galils.Comment
