Do I need a riser for my EOTECH?

I already posted this question on ar15.com but thought someone here might be able to help....

    I have a m4 upper, A2 Front Sight and an A.R.M.S. 40?L BUIS.
I just added a brand new eotech to the mix. I can't get the eotech rectile
high enough to reach the top of my front sight. I really don't want to use a riser...

    Am I doing something wrong?

Ok, you have the ARMS #40L (low profile)? If you are looking through it with the small aperature, then it is for 600 yards and that might be why your dot won't go high enough. However, I would think that is very strange that it doesn't have enough elevation. I think something else is wrong.

Personally ever since I finally took an RRA EOTech Dominator mount with the intergral A2 rear sight out of the back and put it on my floor model FAB-10, I love that thing! It raises the EOTech up so the front sight post doesn't seem to dominate your field of vision. It also gives you a fully functional A2 rear sight with windage and elevation as a back up iron sight that stays down out of the way. I think that is what I want for my LMT MRP CQB when it finally comes in.

So if you do end up doing the spacer the Dominator mount is top notch. Expensive, but top notch.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

the YHM riser can be considered for those that are more cash conscious.

You're not trying to aim by aligning the EOTech recticle with the front sight post, are you?

That's what it sounds like you're trying to do.

I'd suggest you get the RRA Dominator mount and be done with it. It will get the recticle above the sight picture when you're using iron sights, gives you faster target acquisition when using the EOTech.

I am trying to align the eotech dot to the top of my front sight while looking through the rear ARMS BUIS. Is this the wrong way?

With the elevation adjustment pegged all the way up it is still below the front post.

thats the wrong way of doing it. your buis is just that. A (back up iron sight)

fold it down and zero the eotech on it's own. whan using the eotech you are using the dot a reticle cinfiguration, no need to lookat/use the front sight.

after you zero the eotech turn it off and then zero you irons, do so by looking into the screen and matching the fron and rear sight.

once again the irons and electronic sight are not used together.

true, but i had to break it down barney style. he'll figure out the rest as he gets use to how the two sighting systems co-exist.

Don't try to use the EOTech recticle in conjunction with the iron sights.

You've got two separate sighting systems, irons and optics.

Zero your iron sights then worry about mounting and zeroing the optic sights. That's just me and my preference, it may not jive with what everyone else says.

You can have two sight pictures, depending on your preference.

The first option, mounting the EOTech directly to the upper receiver, will put the iron sights square in the center of your field of view while looking through the EOTech. The recticle may or may not sit perfectly on top of your front sight post, depending on your cheekweld and how well your eyes adjust to both being open simultaneously.

Some people don't adjust to the proper technique for using a red dot sight (Bindon Aiming Concept) and try to sight through it like it's a scope. Use both eyes and look at what you want to hit. It takes a little bit to get the hang of it.

The other option is to use a riser mount for the EOTech, which will put your iron sights in the bottom of the EOTech's sight window. The recticle will be a wee bit above the front sight post.

I personally prefer this option, as I think it lends to faster target acquisition with the EOTech. The iron sights have less chance of obscuring the recticle if you're doing a snap shot. I'm running the RRA Dominator mount and it works extremely well, IMO.

Remember, DO NOT try to sight in using the rear sight, the recticle and the front sight all together.

I'm trying to co-witness. You can line up an eotech with your irons, right?

yes, you just need to position your head and eye position to where the glowing dot will fit into the the proper sight alinment/picture of your irons.

but first zero each sighting system on their own or you won't gain anything from using them both at the same time.

I went to my local gun store and tried two other eotech's with no problems. I'm sending the eotech back for a replacement.

I have an eotech with a dominator mount. Its awesome, and i sighted both the eotech and the iron sights in at 50 yds. The dot sits right on top of my front post. And its at the lower 3rd of the window when co-witnessing, perfect!! Thats the whole reason i didnt go with a fold down rear buis, i kept hearing of problems getting front and rear lined up and sighted in, and cowitnessing problems. I decided to go with the mount that was designed for Eotech.
