    Featureless question; which grip?

So there are 2-3 new threads recently talking about featureless builds and this got me thinking; why don't I convert one of my rifles into a featureless build?

I've settled on converting one of my extra rifles into such a build but my question is what grip/stock do I go with?

I've read about several, such as the hammerhead and others to include the no-longer-made UB15 and can't decide which would be best for someone that has smaller hands.

I would like a stock/grip where I can manipulate the safety lever and possibly the magazine release. Is this too much to ask for? I'm hoping we could gather thoughts and pictures on each different setup not just for me but for anyone else that would be interested in such a build.

So post the make/model, picture (preferably one that is being manipulated not just a factory picture), and your thoughts on it!

Here ya go...9mm AR featureless using the Thordsen FRS-15...very similar to the U-15 in design.

Safety looks super easy to reach, perfect! Mag release isn't too far off either I take it?

Let's check out those other setups. My thinking is for some, it would be impossible to access the safety with your thumb (think MM or MG) or is it easy to reach around?

For grip wrap/MM setup you should use an ambi safety and use your trigger finger to manipulate it.

The FRS-15 as you can see above does not suffer from that problem. I do not have overly large hands and I can EASILY reach the safety with my thumb.

For pictures of featureless rifles, be sure to check out the Featureless Rifles Picture thread.

Hammerhead, Headbutt and Backfin will let you do all of those things (see our signature block below for links). For Hammerhead and Headbutt you'll want an ambi-safety (this is common with featureless designs). For Backfin we recommend either a left or right handed safety (no ambi). You actuate the safety with your off hand in this case.

Tried the hammerhead. It won't work for small hands IMHO.
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

The Exile Machine Backfin is really excellent.

Have one Thordson on one lower, tried the Hammerhead on another Lower build, didn't like it so put a "Spur" on it feels much better.

I really like my thordson. It has a natural feel for me and I fire military M16's quite a bit. I like the feel of the M16 but I like to use pre ban 30 round mags in my ar15.

Anyone think about trying a thumb hole stock , don't see why it wouldn't be legal , I haven't seen one for an AR yet but I'm sure someone could make one ...

Thumbhole stocks in CA are on the "bad features list" that make it an "AW", thus requiring a BB.

I also have small hands and the FRS-15 works great. Might be a bit easier with an ambi safety selector though. As a side note, everybody that has ever shouldered the rifle has been very pleased with the stock. Strongly recommended.

Yes, but it did not reset 100% with the 9mm bolt so I sold it.

Placed my order on the Thordsen based on what others have said here; thanks guys.

Keep those pictures going though if you can! I'm sure others will benefit from knowing why you guys picked said-stock.
