Building a 30 Remington AR for Cali lead ban

Maxim Firearms out of Arizona is working on a 30RAR barrel bolt combo for the AR15. Frank Sabatano the shop owner tells me they will be ready in the December and January time frame if you're interested. This caliber suffered a bit under Remington because they didn't have parts available for builders. Its a SAAMI standard cartridge with plenty of ammo online including Hog Hammer loaded with 125gr TSX barnes copper bullets and gets 2800fps from a 22in barrel. Perfect for the cali lead free ban for hunting with an AR in california. Its about an ideal hog caliber that ever existed. He said price for the barrel bolt combo will be in the 300 to 350 range. I'm going to do a 20in for my daughter. You will need a big bore upper though the brass needs a larger ejection port. He said 18 and 20in will be released first then 22in. Magazine are available online that hold 10 rounds. Commercial reloading dies are available from all the top brands.

How is it better than a .458 SOCOM?

      Better in the longer range a 22in 30AR is ballistically equivalent to a 16in 308 AR10.

The 30AR is also a SAAMI round while the 458 SOCOM is a wildcat.

I like the cartridge but just do not see it as a long term round and it going away in a few years.

What is the fps out of an 18"? That's the length I would be looking for.

What weight configuration will it be (Heavy, Mid, SOCOM, etc)?

What forums do they frequent? I haven't been able to find any other info and their webpage is pretty sparse.

Might be a better alternative to a 375 SOCOM that I've been looking at.

I agree with Craig (MSRHunt) a 1000% on this cartridge, hopefully the builds from Maxim cycle factory ammo well - on my custom build it took a lot of trial and error to get it working due to Remington/DPMS not really providing accurate info on gas port size.

Anyhow the 30 RaR is one of my favorites!

Gunbroker has a TON of factory ammo for a reasonable cost and there is even some once fired brass to be had on there.

Dies are made by RCBS and go for 40 bucks.

I own a SOCOM as well and I would have to say that past 150 yards the RAR gets the nod
